I think I want both equally, but I'm not too jazzed about the premium fee Activision wants to charge for the "Elite" service in MW3. Which one are you guys most looking forward to and why?

I'll be switching to BF3 from the MW series this time

im waiting on star wars the old republic. shooters havent been the same for me since the original halo.
MW games are getting rehashed so often, I'm just bored with them, and I really never played them that much to begin with.

BF3, it looks amazing and I like the destruction aspect available in the frostbite engine.

Resistance 3 for me. After the last two COD games I probably won't be buying another one and having always been a console gamer the Battle Front series doesn't have a lot of pull to me.

BF3...by a mile.

Although, just judging by the trailers, it looks pretty heavily scripted / linear. I tend to get bored with squad-based shooters...especially those of the typical military type - but it looks like DICE really put some effort into developing this as a top-shelf PC-oriented FPS, which in itself makes me want to support it. I understand they're bringing prone and lean back into it (which should be standard FPS mechanics, IMO). I'm sure the MP will probably be good....I just hope the single-player campaign doesn't suck.

If I pay $60 for an FPS, I want more than just a few hours of a back-burner SP campaign. I want an epic, don't want to put it down, what's going to happen next kind of experience (kind of like the first time I remember playing HL2).

I'm actually more interested in Metro: Last Light, to be honest.....and it probably won't have near the tech of either. The first one was hard to run and was stiff in the FPS mechanics, but the atmosphere and story were so compelling. One of those games I hated to put down until I got through it. I know they're dishing a lot more money into the development of this one, so maybe those things will be corrected. The Russian / Ukrainian developers are where I'm looking for some really good stuff to come from in the near future.

BF3 for me personally, the Frostbite 2 engine looks incredible! :D If you check the tank video on youtube you can get an idea of just how much thought they put into making the graphics top-of-the-line and the storyline is usually pretty good in the BF series. MW3, from the very little I've caught, seems to just be more of the same in yet another attempt by Activision to squeeze more money out of customers for the same title with a different name. :o

Also, as mentioned above the whole "Pay for Elite!" campaign they are running is just lame. No, I'm not looking to pay extra for more online garbage, I already pay for Xbox Live to play multiplayer on 360 and since I play most of my FPS stuff on my PC anyways I don't have to pay a thing beyond my ISP, so besides DLC (which typically I don't bother buying anymore either unless it's really worth it) they're not getting extra money out of me beyond game purchases anymore. I'm just waiting for them to start charging for ANY multiplayer experience, I thought I had read somewhere they had planned a pilot run on some game already where that was the case.

Battlefield 3 without a doubt. Doesn't even look close at this point.

MW3 just because its the standard...but give me a good RPG, an old school style one you could get on WiiWare or XBox Live Arcade. Those kinds of shooters are so tired. The new Duke Nukem is the one to look out for.

+1

I had never played Final Fantasy 7, and with ebay prices of $15 a disk minimum, and a full game with case being $150, I thought I'd never play it

Playstation Network, $10 for one of the greatest RPG's of all time.

Also apparently they have The Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time for the 3d ds, for anyone that has one or has a kid that has one lol.

10 bucks for FF7, FF8 or FF9 is one of the best deals out there. PSN also has the original Resident Evil games, and all those can also be played on a PSP as well as the PS3. That's awesome. I was lucky enough to get FF7 for xmas as a kid, and when one disc glitched up, a used copy copy at Gamestop (!) for 10 bucks. Original black label, manual and all discs basically scratch free. No place is selling that game for less than 50 bucks now...

I don't own an xbox but I heard there are some cool SNES-style rpgs available on there

in the words of the wise philosopher Radio,

"both."

I think the graphics will be better in BF3, and the storyline will be better/more engaging in MW3.

That's my take, and I'd be happy to test both and write up a review. :D

I'm honestly curious, what makes you think MW3 will have a better storyline? MW2 had one of the most hamfisted and downright stupid campaigns I've ever played. I actually felt insulted after finishing it, partially because at best it was about 5 hours, but mostly because of how rushed and half-baked the whole thing felt. On the bright side though MW3 can't be worse unless it's just three straight hours of occasionally interactive explosions and action movie cliches.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 comes out next year, and it appears to be headed in a direction I'm pretty excited about.

It's going to be running on a new engine and they've indicated that they're going to be adding more RPG elements to the game as well, as well as expanding the application of the artifacts.

I loved both S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl and Call of Pripyat - - the FPS mechanics were a bit stiff, but the atmosphere, open map - mission-based gameplay, and story were fantastic. Both games are, IMO, some of the best FPS ever made.

I think FPS still has a long way to go - especially in incorporating RPG elements, but the one thing I've always liked about FPS is the combat mechanics, which is something I never liked about RPG's. I think the next STALKER will probably be the closest thing to bringing the two together in a "serious" FPS platform.

One thing the STALKER guys have nailed......atmosphere. There's nothing like it.

How is this even a debate? The Call of Duty franchise has been nothing but garbage after CoD4 - which was actually new and innovating .. MW2, WaW, Black Ops not so much.

Oh looks it's yet another stealth mission, what a surprise. Oh look it's yet another plot twist. Wowee, another vehicle mission where you aim a crosshair at enemies and every bloody thing in the map explodes. It's like they think we have the attention span of a 9 year old and all we want to see is 'big explozianz, super awesome!1!1!!1'

My problem with Call of Duty is, that it's all reward and no input. It's important for a game to have the player find things out for themselves, learn to play the game, but with Call of Duty, every little thing is catered towards the casual player - a checkpoint every 5 minutes, directions always telling you where to go, the maps are as linear as can be, the stories are actually written by directors to make it look like a movie... I don't want to play a movie where I occasionally press a button to shoot something, I want to play a video game.

Activision are the laughing stock of the gaming industry - charging $15 for a bunch of maps, where as Dice (BF franchise) releases them for free. It's the same story with Activision's new Elite feature, which you actually have to pay for now. Judging from the E3 gameplay video, MW3 will be no different to its predecessors. It has been the same for a long time now - crouch behind an object, shoot some enemies, you get hit? there's some jelly on your screen, wait for your health to regenerate, move forward because enemies infinitely respawn, all the while, your AI teammates just stand there and do nothing. Don't even get me started on Quick Time Events. Furthermore the graphics look outdated by now, MW3 will still run on the same engine, which includes all the lo-res textures and poor detail that get masked up by static shadows and lighting and blurry Depth of Field effects.

That's not to say that the story or singleplayer in Bad Company 2 was all that great, it was mediocre at best, but Battlefield, much like CoD, has always been about the multiplayer. And speaking from experience, Battlefield has a much more mature community in general - CoD is infested with screaming kids, enormous amount of hackers, connection issues ... I could go on.

And since we are talking about Battlefield 3 and not Bad Company 2, we can expect 32vs32 online fights, fighter jets, prone ... the Frostbite Engine 2 has even better destruction and animation, improved shaders and real-time radiosity.

Obviously MW3 and BF3 are completely different games, but they are both popular FPS games, and being released at roughly the same time period. One can easily see which developer wants their game to develop and which developer relies on brand name and expects their fans and customers to buy it anyway, regardless of quality.
