I've been gigging with a nice old (SF) Deluxe Reverb, and a nice, older, Pro Reverb, depending on venue. I add a Crate V32 Palomino when I do a two amp setup. Love this stuff. But...we've been getting more and more gigs, further away, maybe spend a night or two in a motel. And more different size places. One go-to Fender amp would be nice. Wish they had tremolo. Maybe I should just use the Pro with the right pedals. The DR is my favorite amp.

I don't see how getting more gigs means buying an HRD... Don't get me wrong - I gigged with one for years, and am one of the rare people around here who like them, but...

...I'd just stick with what you have.

Play what works, I'd say keep playing the Deluxe Reverb.

Just don't leave it in the car overnight.

Use the Pro. It should be able to cover everything, being SF with MV. Imo, the only way you'll get a HRD to sound as good as the Pro, is if you get the Omega mods, and drop a 65 Heritage in it. Prolly NOS glass too. Especially for gigging purposes, the Omega mod is almost essential.

Well if I was thinking of a new amp I'd get one that's different to what you already have.
In your case that would be a 6L6 amp that's lighter weight and more versatile than the Fenders you have.

My first reaction is ... amps are meant to be played and life is short.

That's just my opinion. Of course, precautions would be necessary.

I'd take 'em out with me ... I mean ... that's the point of owning them, right? You may feel differently, and I understand that side of the argument, too.

I agree with that. ...not worried about giging with them, I do. They're very reliable. Was just thinking it would be simple to have one amp for all size places. Basically the DR is my fave. Love that 6V6 thing. Some places it's too small. Use the Pro for those. It's great too. No master volume on the Pro, so in a small place, it works but may not quite be at that sweet spot.

What size place does it have to be for the DR not to be big enough? Do you mike the amps?

Smaller place indoors, DR miked or unmiked is fine, in fact perfect.
Bigger place indoors, DR is gonna be miked and is usually fine, but sometimes, especially if the stage is bigger, prefer the Pro and 2-12s. Just feels better.
Outside (it's that time of year), miked or not, Pro is better.

1) Install discreet PPIMV on the Pro?

2) Buy a Bandmaster head as the "in between DR and Pro" amp.....run it into the 2x12

Trust someone who has owned an HRDlx and now plays a DRRI... you will not be happy if you play a gig with the HRDlx. Borrow someone elses HRD and try it out. You'll see thatt you will eventually just keep using your SF DR.
