He gave it the thumbs up- boost and OD modes sound the same as his KOT. I will bring it to band practice tonight and run it next to my KOT for comparisons with a band. I wouldn't say it "cuts" I would just say it doesn't necessarily "emphasize" bass like a lot of other OD's out there

It's a bluesbreaker circuit (of sorts). The key to this one - it's got Mike's mojo... Which, if you've been laughing at the other thread about Analogman's products like I have, the Prince of Tone is totally worth having. :spit

One of the best OD's I've ever played, to this day, is the KOT. I'm really looking forward to this single stomp version.

I came up with a way to make the mode toggle change the LED color yellow = boost, red = OD (just like the standard KOT settings) and dist = green, maybe the next version can have that. If we do that, would we need to label the toggle? I don't like the small labels on the toggle and I think the color changing LED would be cool.

KOT are all hand made in the usa, POT are all hand made in China so as not to take away from out kot production.

Same as we do with the Sun Bender till we get the production running faster. Best to wait a few months to order a POT as we will have plenty by then, so you don't need to check the site often.

IF you reached the top of the KOT list you will be able to order a POT instead of a KOT. We will keep some in stock for those people so you don't need to check the website for stock.

Thats not necessary true.The only way that would be the case is if you set the dip switches all Clean, or all OD, or all Dist. (which the poster said he wasn't planning on doing).

The Stock Yellow and Red sides are pretty dramatically "different pedals"

And if he set the single POT to "Dist" then he would have 3 different pedals.

But even having two Yellow sides and one Red side could open up some stacking options.

Yknow, at the rate that KOTs go for nowadays ($350) this means that 2 POTs will be cheaper and more versatile in terms of signal chain (not considering AM's FX loop mod).

I'm too lazy to read the whole thread, but has any one else suggested that this would be a lot easier to use as a two foot switch / two led pedal? One switch for bypass, the other to change modes (indicated by the LED).

If it were like that, it could replace 90% of my uses of the KOT, since I don't stack sides that much (would lose "presets", though)...

Hey all!! Just wanted to let you know I got my POT today! Heres a pic!

First off, I want to thank Mike at Analogman for giving me the opportunity to purchase the pedal of my dreams! Definetely a class act as we all know all year round!

I want to thank MadFrank for helping me post this petition because I had my cell phone and couldnt start the petition or at least the discussion. I guess is was a joint venture between the 2 of us because we both love the yellow side so much and found out there are almost 300 others that did too! I know we werent the original people to come up with the Prince of Tone as someone else pointed out a while ago in this thread.

I want to thank everyone that participated in this petition because you all helped bring this baby to life! Woohoo!

I tried the pedal out tonight for about 15 minutes and what I got at bedroom levels is a mini KOT. My LED is red only but the 3 way switch is pretty cool. I played it with my 52 RI Tele with stock pups and it seemed to perform like my KOT. I love to add my DD-2 to thicken the tone up and the tone knob is just like the KOT. For me, it thickens up like a Les Paul when at about 9 oclock with the DD-2 and the Diamond Comp all played together. Wish I could get you some videoes or sound pieces!! Im sure your all wanting to hear this thing in action. Maybe Mike has some videos but is waiting till the pedal goes on sale??

Will do. I've had my eye on the original for over a year, so I'm taking the leap. I've always liked what I've heard in vids, and the idea of the glass knob sounds incredibly usable. I'm hoping it blows me away, but so far the only ODs that have came from Jetter.

The ironic thing is that I got a hint that it was available not through this thread, but through a post in the KTR Klon thread where someone just posted that they would rather get a POT since it's reliably deliverable, and case in point he just bought one (FLAG!)

That was a few minutes before 3PM EST, which means those 10 pedals sold out in just under a half hour. According to TGP posts, that means half of the first release went to TGP folk. No Hesitation!

Interesting to read on the POT page about the two new 'Dip-Switches' inside. Either it was mentioned here before and I missed it, or these haven't been discussed yet.

DIP-1 - 'Low-Mid' lift switch. Enhances the tone from the lower strings.

Dip-2 - 'Turbo-Switch'. A deeper compression on higer gain settings, especially 'Dist' mode.

Total dumb luck but I got one! I was sitting in the drive-through at a burger joint, service was slow, so I checked TGP on my phone. I saw the pedal was available and bought one right there while waiting for my food. Crazy thing, I was in that very same spot last year when the first timeline buy went live. Seems like I should spend more time in that drive-through!

I no longer have my KOT to compare it to, but I'll try to get a demo up once it arrives anyway.

I got my order in right when they went up. I noticed the builder Camtac posted a picture of a bunch on Facebook and I took that as a hint, went to the site and boom, there it was. I have a KOT v4 and will post a vid comparing as soon as it arrives. I think mike posted earlier that he would make 10 available a day till he gets caught up so just keep checking.

well it does seem a bit odd to say "hey please don't advertise my wares so people will buy them quicker!" however, analogman doesn't seem to ever have the problem of finding a customer to buy a pedal, so these additional steps are made so it gives everyone a fair shot at it, like the "one per person" thing or the "wait list per email" thing and so on.

think of Analogman as Pearl Jam versus Ticketmaster. Why do we want all the stuff to go to trigger finger scalpers? Retail shops and flippers want a shot at these too, for prooooofit. If Analogman can make it so guitar dudes can grab some direct, that's a cool thing to try to do.

I was pretty upset this morning too. I checked the site every few hours everyday but cause I stay in Singapore, I had to sleep and within those 6 hours of sleep, the POT became available and sold out. So it did feel rather unfair for someone who really wanted it and kept checking the page rather than someone spreading the news on forums.

But oh well, I don't blame whoever started spreading the news. I know we've all been waiting eagerly for this and anyone would be extremely excited being able to order one. =)

I'm not blowing anything out of context, and I'm not trying to be an ass. This stuff happens all the time, so I'm just trying to figure out the disappointment. Pedals sell out all the time and tons of people miss the first opportunity. So what? They'll be back. You have to wait another week. Life goes on.

1 per person makes perfect sense....many people will view this as an opportunity to avoid the 1.5 year wait....and that is a very big deal to many people.

I can see the possibility of improvement in the DIST setting, it is certainly the weakest of the 3 dip settings.

Of course an "upgrade" would make much more sense if you have the $50 external switch mod. Otherwise, its pretty unlikely I'll be talking it off of Clean and OD settings for my board.

Since we know that first run is 50, that means there should be four more batches of 10 coming up soon before the production dries up for a bit before the big rollout later.

KOT has the trimpot too = brighness/presense kind of thing

KOT has dipswitches also, but they are for controling the Clean/OD/DIST options. From the POT page, these Dip switches are different. (and the internal switching of the KOT is external on the POT......for those that might be confused.

He is a modification technician, not a dealer. Or you can buy any of the modified pedals direct from Analog Man.

But as you see in those pics, Camtac is doing the final assembly here in the USA, at least those first fifty for quality control observation, after they've been manufactured in Taipei and I'm guessing initial assembly in Japan. The board also has "RE-J" on it, and as said on HC:

"For those that are not familiar with "RE-J" from Japan, they are the "Certified AnalogMan Modification Technician And Collaborator" as they put it, and have helped develop many of Analogman pedals & mods (the main man is Ohbayashi-san, and I believe you can see AnalogMike mention his name several times on their site)"

I came up with a way to make the mode toggle change the LED color yellow = boost, red = OD (just like the standard KOT settings) and dist = green, maybe the next version can have that. If we do that, would we need to label the toggle? I don't like the small labels on the toggle and I think the color changing LED would be cool.

KOT are all hand made in the usa, POT are all hand made in China so as not to take away from out kot production.

Right, so the bulk are going to be manufactured and assembled by Amaze Tone, which is in Taiwan. But these first 50 are manufactured by Amaze, but assembled by Camtac, who is from Japan and is the co-designer of the pedal, and the assembly is done here in the USA so Analogman can check out the QC.

AMAZE is Analog Man Asia Zipang Exchange.
Zipang is an old Chinese word for Japan!

CAMTAC is the engineer, Mr. Ohbayashi, from Japan.
Eiji Kadota is a Japanese professional guitarist living in Taiwan, he helps us with tuning and dealing with Chinese for parts etc.

Mr. Kadota is in the pictures above, both of them are in the USA this week.

Yes the tone is cool in that video....however, it doesn't really address what the KOT is actually doing there....just pushing the amp a little....giving the amp most of its dirt etc...

This has been one of the best threads ever, as long as I've been trolling TGP, which was far before I started an account, and way before I became a supporting member. A lot of pedal makers could really learn something from the customer interaction AM has as company with their people. This is why you'll see pedal boards with multiple AM pedals. People trust them, feel like they are a part of it, and quite often have their own custom versions of boxes. Nice to see in today's world. Hell, I've emailed Mike about pedals that weren't even his before and he has politely answered my stupid questions.

Last night i used the boost side of the Prince with my Civil War muff and was pleasantly surprised at what it did to the already thick as a brick tone! I had thw POT in front of the muff just for the record. I really like the 3 way toggle. Very convenient to add that boost to anything you want.

Well there's a KOT in the emporium right now for 300 so i'd say the POT is already helping out. I can see someone thinking "hmm, that's like only 150 per side, like getting 2 POTs for 300, plus the KOT is made in the USA and all, and that's the "famous" one, so..." and then pulling the trigger.

You'll still see folks going for the KOT for those reasons, but halving the cost and halving the space and the added conveniences of the ext. toggle for no extra cost, plus the two new dipswitch functions inside, all sum up to a powerful argument for the POT sticking around as well. oh, and pretty soon the greater availability.

Frickin' ridiculous. I don't know how it happened, but I had one in my cart. Then I went to grab my CC that I was putting the pedal on. I had signed in using my email and password. Then, populated the shipping/billing address, filled it all out, clicked submit order - then my next screen showed an empty cart with no confirmation.

That's pretty shady right there. Not saying AM is at fault - I love his work and customer service... But you can imagine how stoked I was to get this pedal. Went to grab my CC in the other room once it had been added to my cart to fill out my information, then I get a screen saying my cart is empty AFTER I clicked Submit Order??? It was added to my cart! :huh :thud

I literally just bought a different pedal yesterday thinking that there's no way I would luck out and be able to get one of these. I had the order page open on another window at work and would randomly try it out and holy sh!t it all of a sudden gets added to the cart!! Super stoked that I lucked out and got an order in!! Now I got two pedals in the mail I'm gonna have to hide from the wifey haha!! The price was too good to pass up!! Big kudos to mike for taking a suggestion like this from TGP and making it happen!! And also pricing it at a very reasonable price!! Thumbs up all the way!! Class act!!
