Oh crap.
I had hoped the story a few days ago of him going too the hospital would be followed by a recovery story but sadly.........
Rip Clarence you were my favorite E Street player and will be sadly missed.

Just saw this on another site (FARK) a few moments ago. Sad, very sad. I read recently that he wanted to give musical joy to those around him as long as he lived. We can all safely say that he did. Goodnight, Big Man, we'll miss you.

so sad. I saw Bruce and E. Street Band at the Capitol Theater in '75. One of the top shows I've been to and the Big Man was a huge part of it being as good as it was. His solo on Jungleland was gorgeous.

RIP big man, thanks for everything :)
the first album I remember hearing is springsteen's "born to run", the sound of that band is indelibly burned into my brain
also really liked this quote:
"The universe is there to give you what you want," Clemons told All Access about his multifaceted success. "You just need to be there to get it."
seemed like a guy I would want to talk to

When the change was made uptown
And the Big Man joined the band
From the coastline to the city
All the little pretties raise their hands
I'm gonna sit back right easy and laugh
When Scooter and the Big Man bust this city in half
RIP and Thank-you

Hard to type this. I cannot believe that someone so full of life and energy is gone. Since I was a kid, the E Street Band has represented the "majesty and mystery of rock 'n roll" to me. On may occasions I saw Clarence bring tens of thousands of people to their feet- not because of his musical virtuosity, but more through his presence and power as part of an amazing communal and musical experience. Rest in peace, Big Man. That's one void that can ever be filled.

Was wondering, was this the most famous close partnership between a white man and a black man in music history? (Or maybe not just in music). What a wonderful thing.

this is such sad news :(
he was a local down here, and would pop in and jam all over the place.
whenever there was a charity concert or benefit, the "Big Man" would usually be there.
he was one of the greatest sax players ever, and when he tore into a solo, you KNEW it was him.
i have been blessed to have jammed with him from time to time, as well as another giant of the sax, Jeff Watkins from James Brown and currently the sax player and musical director for Joss Stone.
Clarence had a heart as big as Texas, and a tone as wide as the mississippi river.
the world is a slightly less bright place without CLarence in it. he wil be greatly missed down here in south florida.
play on Big Man........play on :band

Sad to lose The Big Man. He is an icon and the passion, heart and soul he poured into his music and his life with the E St. Band for nearly 40 years will remain in our musical hearts forever. Thank you Clarence...see you down Thunder Road.

i seriously felt like i lost a relative when i heard he died... just heartbreaking.
i haven't been on TGP much in the past few days so forgive me if these have been posted... but i wanted to share 2 brilliant tributes that really got to me....
The first is by Nightly News Anchor, Jersey Shore native and Bruce uber-fan Brian Williams....

A few days late. So sad. Springsteen and Clarence changed my life years back, and still do. Springsteen and the E Street Band is one of those bands that got me though some of the hardest times in my life - still do. Born To Run is probably still my number 1 album off all time. I'm so glad I got to see him play live four times.
Clarence - we'll miss you. I know you're in a better place now. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends.
