We've had our current cat since she was a kitten. She's about 9-10 now. For the past few years her attitude has sucked. Never friendly, always bitching, clawing the crap out of the rug on our stairs and about 9 months ago she started dumping on the rugs.

We've brought her to the vet and there's nothing wrong with her. We've modified her diet to remove foods that could be upsetting her stomach. We even put a cat box right in the living room near where she soils it.

That seemed to work for a while but now she's started up again. Our rug downstairs looks like hell no matter how hard we try to clean it.

I was fed up with her quite a while ago and now even my wife doesn't want her anymore.

We don't want to put her down and we really don't want to try and find her a home with friends cause of her issues.

Are there any other humane options????

Where was the litter orginally? Was it moved? If so...that does not fly with my cat.
If I move the litter...both the couch and bed get pee'd on asap. I WISH it was on my rug!

As far as attitude...try kittie treats. After 13 years with my cat we now have a new relationship. She plays and does tricks for treats now. After which she's my close buddy

DonnieB, it sounds like your cat might indeed have a behavior issue. Anything changed recently in your household in terms of lifestyle? My cat started acting similarly to yours shortly after I got married and my wife moved in. Granted my cat is 5-6 years younger than yours. Well the vet told me that I'd probably need to isolate the cat for a period of at least two weeks. That fiasco lasted for one night keeping him holed-up in the garage; you can probably imagine how that went over.

I ultimately changed his diet over to organic cat food and distilled water w/remineralizers (like my wife and I drink), gave him a little TLC and extra attention, and he got better almost right away. He still claws the carpet sometimes but that's about it. Maybe just looking for ways to help eliminate any "stress" in your cat's life could help.

Good luck.

No changes. And we've tried all types of things with her diet. She's just a bitch of a cat. For my wife to finally be this fed up speaks volumes of how bad it is.

If you don't want to try and fix it...I would certainly give her away versus putting her down
