Dr. Tweedbucket

.... I was thinking if you have a beard, you are stuck in teh 60s ...

If you have a moustache, you are stuck in the 80s .... and possibly ... well I can't say it here. :eeks

If you have a beard and moustache you are really confused ..... :YinYang

If you are clean shaven, you probably can't grow a decent beard or moustache :red

Is there anything else anyone wants to add?

I've never been able to grow thick sideburns, not enough density. It's too bad because I always wanted to try mutton chops.

Not too bad imo...wish it were the 60's! (although I wasn't born til 76 lol)

Wear whatever you want, beard, no beard, mustache, clothing, etc.

Just don't be offended when people treat you differently because of it. If you go out of your way to look outside the norm, you'll be treated that way. We're pack animals sometimes.

Used to wear a goatee (Van Dyke)....then realized it's just baseball players and IT guys wearing them. Shaved it off.

I rock a goatee for two reasons:

1. It's all I can grow.
2. I look like a dork clean-shaven.

Beards are awesome and 100% acceptable in the sludge/stoner scene that I love.

Moustaches are a bit more tricky. If you aren't Sam Elliot give it some thought before you grow one.

My boss has had a mustache since I started here......almost 18 years.

I won't grow just a mustache.....think it looks dorky on me anyway.
I do grow a beard....well, not a beard....massive...thick stuff...
just at the most....6 or 7 days worth.

I would lose it if my boss walked in some day without his.

(he at least needs to trim it up....it's all wirey and things) :eeks

I wear what I wear (35 years +), fashion be damned.

For me its a cultural thing, not a trend. Except for 5 yrs. in the military, when I couldn't have facial hair. I do feel the occasional social ramifications.

At 41 I'm too old for a hipster beard, they should stop at Kyle Kinane.
Couldn't do a goatee, all I can think of is Kenny Powers.
Not a fan of the 'stache. The bushy kind is just too 70's/porn/Village People and mostly my father in law.
I think the kids in their 20's with the waxed handlebar kind look silly.

Beards yes, mustaches usually make me think of a.child molester or a cop. Only a few people can really pull off a moustache. Creeps me out. Of course I have really long hair and a Dimebag type of.goatee.

Clean shaven or 5 o'clock shadow, which my wife loves.

Goatees is the look of choice of used car salesmen, so I stopped sometime around 2001.

personally, i do the beard in the wintertime along with all the other men at my work. it's just what we do. it's a man thing...

summers are pretty brutal, so i shave - sometimes i rock the soul patch. been cultivating one for a few months now, so it's nice and thick.

moustache...you have to have something REALLY special going on to pull one off.

What? No monkey tail beards here? heh..

I like to do a one or two month beard in the winter, lol on the goatee comment and Kenny Powers. I heard a gay guy call them mangina's...

Mustaches are cool if you can pull it off like Tom Selleck or Sam Elliot. I can't do it though. It's usually a 5 o clock shadow or clean. I have the patience to grow long hair, but not for a beard it gets too it itchy...

I like mostaches, think they look real sharp on black dudes. I'm white, so I look like a creep with one.

Goatees seem like a lot of work to keep shape. Mine doesnt connect, so I get Johnny Depp comments if I "rock" one.

My beard isnt special, but it is super handy. I trim the neckline once a week and that's it. I'd like it to get wild and long, but then I get Al Queda comments (and I work with soliders.....not a good mix).

I look really goofy clean shaven. Even my wife agrees.

Fear the Beard.

Only reason I'd fear that beard is because I'd worry some bugs would jump out of it and colonize my hair.

My upper lip hasn't seen daylight since the 70's, but last November I grew a beard. When I got an Al Queda comment from my smartass nephew at Christmas, I decided to have it trimmed professionally and get my hair cut at the same time. Now I look like a younger version of the dude in the Dos Equis commercials and Ms Vee loves it. Even my Mom said something about it on Mother's Day and she likes it too.

Not that I looked bad with my mustache (or so I've been told), but I've gotten positive comments on the trim but slightly wild beard look from kids, teens, 20-somethings, co-workers, my friends and even old people. So, I guess it depends on your facial features and how well you can grow and rock it. One thing though, I am digging the just shave your neck and do quick cheek scoops thing. Only takes about 30 seconds in the morning...

BTW: It's 70's porn stars that had mustaches, not 80's porn stars. :D

Stay thirsty my friends...

I sport a goatee beacuse I hate shaving my upper lip, and these days everybody thinks thinks that mustaches are only for 70's porn stars. So, I compromise with the now over-done, and soon to be regarded as the new mullet, goatee.

I sometimes have a beard, sometimes a moustache, and sometimes I'm clean shaven (or have a five o'clock shadow). Never a goatee, because it's not the 90s anymore.

Currently a beard.

I have had a full beard for at least 20 years, except for a week when I shaved and MY infant daughter was afraid of me, too.

The 'infant' is going to college in the fall, so my chin has not seen the sun since Clinton was the Commander in Chief.

Yeah my wife digs it until her thighs get chaffed...

Here's the thing...

If you're over 40, any kind of facial hair is acceptable, period, doesn't matter. Goatees have become a bit "dated" at this point, but still ok over 40.

If you're younger than 40, of course, like anything else, you should do what you want, but from having younger bandmates, etc here are the general perceptions...

The beard is the most acceptable thing. Other than being slightly thought of as a hipster accoutrement (sorry if misspelled)

Goatee, Van Dyke - no, it's not done anymore (which is kinda making them seem cool again to me)

Mustache - if you look good and can pull it off but you are definitely going to hear the "hipster" tag (from other hipsters, of course).

I'd have to say yes to all (except the monkey tail which kind of makes me want to try it out just for completeness). Most often I, once a week, run a set of clippers with no guard over my neck then the 1/8th guard over my face. But that's just when I'm feeling lazy.

I must provide a defense to your baseless commentary and opinion here. Clearly, you have not been plugged into the allure of the lip fur and the functional and fashionable advantages it provides a man.

I cite an important article from AMI:

The mustached American is a broad and varied breed. Where in the 1970s we were newsmen, politicians, and members of the Village People (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuJ8mav2ePI); today we are carpenters, steel workers, motocross riders, and the current line-up of the Village People. In short, we are everyman. But through this diversity, mustached-Americans also share great consistencies. We are men of purpose, we are the Marlboro man (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpwcF3Malj8&feature=related), we eschew thin crust for deep-dish pizza, we choose beer over martinis, and we prefer Hardees' aptly named "Monster Thickburger" to McDonald's questionably monikered "Big Mac."

We are every man and we pave our own way through this world, trying to help people with Bare Upper Lip Disorder (BULD).

Thank You and stay strong.

I've had a full beard since graduating high-school. I think I look weird without one.

It has varied greatly in length (gotten some "When'd you come over from Israel"'s when dining at Indian and middle eastern restaurants), but it is generally pretty trimmed up now.

I've kept one for the last few years (a Van Dyke, actually) for exactly that reason: now that my face is wider, the extra 'depth' at the chin offsets the added girth in the cheeks. ;) :D

I've had a mustache since I was 21.
Shaved it off one time and nobody noticed.
It was like, dude, there is something different about you but I just can't put my finger on it.

Over the years I have grown a beard or two, side burns, goatee, etc.

I was told I looked mean with the goatee so I shaved it off.

What is weird is that I am formerly a blond but my hair has darkened over the years to a medium brown.
But when I grow a beard it almost looks red. Weird.

So since I am 54, I have had a mustache for 33 years and since it was in the 70's when I grew the 'stache, I guess I am stuck in the 70's. lol

My wife of 12 years has never seen me with out it.
