who prefers no mics on the cab sims? i just like the sound of the cab itself, and can't think of why id color it with a mic sim. Am i missing something?

I'm with you. Micless and loving it.

No, I am with you. When solo'd out, I agree wholeheartedly.

In a mix? I feel that the mic's work better.

Just my opinion.

I prefer no mics as well. So many other variables to play with, I like keeping mics out of the equation.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. The song dictates the sound I need, and sometimes the mic coloration is what I need.

are you referring to a live mix or recorded mix or both? i've only had 2 gigs with it so far and haven't gotten to tweak that much. between not having my wedge set up to not having a foot controller working at the time, i was pretty distracted, lol.

thankfully my ev elx112 got here today, and i finally got my fcb talking to the ultra, so this weekend will be a good test, then I get to really open it up and rock at the 2 teen camps i'm playing at over the next couple of weeks.

I've never used mic sims in my Axe-Fx. I also never use the "Air" or "Drive" parameters.

Both.

IMHO, YMMV.

Both.

yeah, but i know you have a lot of mileage and play a lot of the same type of venues/situations that I do, so I respect your opinion.

of course the p&w gigs you do might be different from mine, i do mostly charismatic/spirit filled type stuff, so they like it loud and energetic, which is fun for me, lol.

I used the mic sims until I got the Ownhammer cabs.

I just check the tone with them and not and pick whatever I like best... frequently without the mic.

usually no mic, probably 80% of the time

100% own hammer, no extra mic sims, no air either.

Interesting. You're making we want to dial back Air and try some mic-free cabs now...

Very interesting, I always just stuck one in there...

On the Axe II is there any way to turn off the mic sims globally and leave the cabs on?

I rarely use the mic sims... basically try to dial in everything without them but sometimes, there is an element from the mic sim that simply needs to be there... at that point I am happy to oblige

No mics. No air. No drive. I rarely use 3rd party IRs either.

Ownhammers and no mic sims or other parameters. Also, I am using the MA200 IRs which are pretty even but very present. I want as much of the cab as possible and then dialing the rest in the amp. I've tried coming back to the sizzle of the SM57 a number of times. My problem is I still seek a tone that sounds good alone as well as in a mix. I "think" I've got a good compromise.

I tend to use Redwirez mostly (usually within Altiverb in Pro Tools rather than the Axe). If using the Axe's Cab Blocks I tend to use the Antares Mic Modeler plugin in Pro Tools rather than the the Axe's mic's.

I'm talking a G1 Ultra here, and since I usually use a guitar cab live I'm talking about DI recording etc. I'm hoping that the Axe II's new Cab Blocks will make needing Altiverb for Cab IR's a thing of the past?
