Need a quick answer. Got mine off Ebay and it arrived last night. Running at 18v DC it hisses like crazy....and the boost knob doesn't even seem to work. At 9v DC and battery powered, the pedal seems to behave fine....quiet, controls work.
Do I have a bad pedal?
Thanks!

The boost button only works when the OD button is engaged. Haven't tried it at 18v yet.

Thanks.....yes....I saw that the boost doesn't do anything unless it's on. At 18v, the boost knob didn't do anything if the effect was off or on....it just hissed louder when engaged.
I just need to confirm if 18v is a problem or not.

Turning up the boost knob doesn't really make it louder, maybe a little louder, but it does turn up the gain ... and the noise.

Yeah...that's not really what I'm primarily concerned about.
The issue is the loud hiss when running at 18v.

The only way to find out for sure is to ask Sean. If I ran a peddle of mine at 18v and it made a loud hissing noise I'd stop running it at 18v.

I tried running mine at 18v when I first got it a while back. I didn't hear any appreciable gain in hiss/noise. It's OK to run it at 18v and some players prefer it, I don't.
I run mine at 9v, on a battery. Quiet as a mouse.
Try contacting Sean directly.

I run mine at 18v. Is there some noise, yeah... but no more than at 9v (I just a/b'd my pedal with both power levels). To my ears it's less noisy than my OCD at 9v, by that I mean it sounds like standard pedal noise to my ears. Also, there's a slight increase in noise with the boost engaged, but it matches the volume increase from what I hear. Last point here, the noise I hear is only when I get close to my amp in a quiet setting... at gig volumes I don't hear the noise on stage or in rehearsals.

I'm settling on 9v. Maybe it's just this pedal but 18v is terrible.

Just enjoy it at 9v. It's killer IMO.

I had this experience also. I was able to get the pedal as high as 16v but once it hit 18v, I had a loud buzz with the pedal engaged. Not just soft gain hiss...super loud buzz. Thought it was just a problem I had but I guess others experience it too.
At 16v though the pedal still sounded great. Very clear and the boost section had a really diff growl.

Thanks for confirming Hugo! I just wanted to make sure this wasn't a defective pedal. I'm using a Godlyke power converted to adjust voltages.....it allows 12v....I'll give that a try.
I've actually learned that it's not only the Amp 11 that hisses with higher voltage. My Xotic EP Booster is a littler noisier also. I may just skip the high voltage concept and drop everything back to 9v as the noise isn't worth it.
More experiments.....

Godlyke isn't isolated right? Is the AMP11 in a daisy chain? I find the AMP 11 doesn't do well in daisy chains. I've just been using the battery, and it's dead quiet.

Interesting. Here's the power setup:
1-Spot....9v Chain(Amp 11)...Goldlyke Converter...18v Chain(EP Boost/OCD)
Maybe the first test is go back to 9v on everything. Then, if it's still noisey, run the Amp 11 on battery. That would be annoying as it's velcroed down to the board and the placement of the jacks don't allow for easy removal to cut the power when not in use.

so what does running the amp 11 at 18v actually do??? i read that it gives it more head room but what does that actually mean?
does it just make everything sound gainier??
sorry for the newb type question
