I have a 12W amp that I'm thinking of putting the Weber 10F150T
I can either get the 25W or 50W
There's lots of praise for the 50W
But I'm wondering if the 25W would be better for a 12W amp ??
Please Help Me Choose

I believe the db sensitivity is the same on both the 25 and 50 watt version. I would get the 50 watt if you intend to use any kind of OD pedal.
I just had them recone a 1961 Jensen C12P for me with the 12F150T cone and 50 watt voice coil. It sounds great and is currently residing in my '65 Fender Deluxe Amp.

Usually it's a headroom v speaker distortion issue - neither of which seems your situation. I have experience w the 10F150 in a Super Champ (18watts) and there still much headreoom available. I've tried several of the 12" alnico versions of this speaker and their renown 12F150A though not 12A150T and have to say the their alnicos depart a fanastic character. If i get another 10" for that amp, it would be the alnico. With this in mind I would suggest a 10A150T.

I received this from Weber:
50w 98dB
25w 97db
why is 50W better for pedals ??

Why 25W over 50W ??

I would think the 50 watt may be a little overkill for a 12 watt amp, but I'm no expert.

My experience with 12F150's is the opposite of what Weber suggest, the 25w being noticably louder (and brighter) than the 50w. The lower powered speaker was also more articulate.
I'd go 25w.

If you use pedals a lot go with the 50. If only occasionally go with the 25

Yeah, that does seem to be overkill. I have a 25 watt Weber 10F150T in my Headstrong Lil' King Reverb which is rated for 12 watts, I believe.
The power rating for a given speaker is related to the design of the voice coil. Simply put, a higher watt speaker will have a more robust voice coil to handle more power from an amp, without meltdown occurring. If you don't have a powerful amp, then a lower watt speaker may actually be a better match. Somewhere I read that you may wish to consider choosing a speaker that has 150% (1 & 1/2 times more) of the nominal power rating compared to the output of the amp (i.e., a 14 watt RMS amp would be matched well with a 20-25 watt speaker). This is just a general rule of thumb. Some folks who like to stack overdrive pedals choose to go with a speaker that is rated at twice the power of their amp or more, just to be on the safe side. I prefer the method of selecting a speaker with a power rating roughly 50% more than the amp's rated power. There is a little more "wiggle" room with closed back speaker cabinets. They tend to dampen extreme speaker cone excursions, especially with power sucking low frequencies.

25 watts for two reasons:
You'll still have headroom to spare
The alnico beaks up earlier thAn the Ceramic and though subtle will give u that something extra
Weber gives u different options like amount of speaker dope. My experience has been that some dope is needed but that depends on whatnu r looking for. Lastly, have Weber fully break in your speakers before sending them to u.

i had a 10F150T in my Headstrong Lil King (also 12watts) and it was great. my fave so far was the A150, but the 125 broke up a little too fast for my liking.

Also, the magnet weights are different for the 25W and 50W 10F150T
40 oz magnet 25 W
50 oz magnet 50 W

if u play at high gigging volumes and do not want to impart speaker distortion into the mix, i'd suggest 50w.
unless u play high gain, i would suggest no speaker dope. dope dampens the character of the speaker

It's a 12W amp... would that cause speaker distortion with a 25W speaker ??
