I want to pickup a wireless unit. Only need 100' distance (G30).

The only 'problems' I have heard are...

- The G50 battery door is stronger then the G30
- The G30 cable of 1/4" is more universal then the G50 of 1/8"

Not sure if either is true. Seems the technology or sound quality is just as good on both. So really deciding factor is the battery door (some say its cheaper and can breaker on the G30 or the G50 1/8" cable is a hassle).

Only need functionality of the G30 but if the G50 is more robust (besides the metal case) I would get that one.

Any experience?

I have the G30, and yes, the battery door is flaky. I bought one of those Neotech wireless pouches (about $10) and the problem is solved. The transmitter fits in there tight enough so that the door won't open.

Same here - I have never had an problem with the battery door popping open, I have more of a problem latching it shut. But the Neotech pouch does eliminate and concern, and is handy otherwise

I've got a G50, and chose it over the G30 mostly because I wanted the assurance of the metal case, and the extra distance - 100' is just an approximation, you never know what interference will cause issues, and I didn't want to even entertain the possibility of the unit cutting out randomly.

I've been looping the belt pack on my guitar strap as high as it can go, the first time I used it in a live situation, the pack wasn't as high, and knocked up against my guitar (quite hard), which somehow reset the unit (the batteries must have shifted and lost contact, loosing power).

I've used it for 2 shows since, and haven't had any problems, with the pack high and away from possibly knocking into anything.. I assume having the belt pack would give an extra buffer from bumping around on anything.

THe G50 is a much better built box and unit. The transmitter is very durable and no issues with the battery door. The G50 has a small 3 pin (with locking coupler) jack at the reciever side. This seems to be universal for high end units. Everything about the G50 seems to be pro caliber. Ive used mine for just a few shows since I received it a few weeks ago, but I have had several other high end units over the past 20 years. Shure and Samson True Divesity units always seemed to be top notch...but I am really liking the G50 now. I also like that it uses AA batteries and not 9V. The new technology allows the battery life to about double from the early units.

I have had the G50 for more than a year now and have never had a problem with the battery door. The dang battery lasts so long that I really haven't fiddled with it much.

I also have it in a pouch on my strap and it works flawlessly. Never had a dropout even using onstage outdoors.

I've got the G30. My whole band uses a g30. We tested it and have gone over 100' feet away through walls and all and it still keeps its signal. None of us have had a problem with battery doors. I've had mine about a year. Might go for the g50 if mine is stolen.
