If you've read my past threads, I have some neighbors that I hate.

I decided to crank up a loop of Tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and blast it out my window. It sure made them stop what they were doing and they all went inside.

I have a couple of neighborss who decided to put in backyard stereos...for the past two years I've been hearing either classic rock or 70's disco morning, noon and night.

When I asked each of them to turn their volume down, I got essentially the same sympathetic response - something along the lines of "I can play this as loud as I want until 11PM...so go f*$k yourself."

So, out comes the 4000 watt PA, through which I introduced them to Ornette Coleman.

A couple of days go by...followed by visits from each angry neighbor ... met each of them at the door with my 120lb shepherd at my side....fruitful discussions ensue, after which all parties agree to turn down their respective stereos....

Call the method juvenile if you like, but it worked.

I think it's a great way to get a little cooperation among neighbours. Good job!

While life is noisy it's doesn't have to bother anyone else. Head phones can go as loud as you want. If you really really have to feel the music buy a killer car stereo so that you only disturb someone for a few seconds as you pass by.

To sit in your yard and blast music so loud your neighbours complain is just anti-social. I like how you're neighbours felt they better come over and have a chat with your about the load music situation once they were out gunned.

Pity people have to be forced in to being reasonable and getting along.

Hmmm, never heard Zappa described as a burnout hippie before...

:)

I've never really 'gotten' Zappa's music... most of it is way over my head.
But, having said that, I've read quite a few articles, interviews, and Zappa's book, and the guy was amazingly intelligent, and thought well outside the box (before it was a buzzword).

I don't think he did his kids any favors with those names, though...

Burnout hippie? You an musically-undereducated fool. Zappa was never a hippy and did not even like hippies. Also had more talent than most of the rock musicians from the 1960s through today. He also fought against congress to protect free speech and was greatly admired by Czech President trying to get out from the oppressive rule by Communist Russia.

Ihave a gym next door to my business. We're in a mixed use strip mall kind of building. They operated in the evening starting about 4pm. We've had lots of discussions about the noise they make...

So a couple weeks ago one of the guys who works there has a wedding band and decided he should have his band practice in the gym during normal business hours (when my shop is open) but theirs is not open.

I aimed my PA at their wall and gave them a CD (on repeat) of Big Ten marching band fight songs recorded circa 1960s. This being ACC country I thought that would be torture for them...
