Walked into Guitar Center today for the first time in quite a long while. This telecaster caught my eye.. i've always loved the look of copper 52 reissue tele and have been waiting for them to make them in that color again... but this one is sweet looking and the burst edges and black pickguard really look sharp IMO. I picked her up and played her for a few minutes acoustically and she is very resonant. even with 9's strung on her.. plugged in the tone was pretty chimey but I can see a pickup upgrade in the future.

This is a guitar center exclusive model, which was a factory special run (FSR). The differences as far as I can see beyond the paint job are that the control plate is installed backwards from traditional teles. it is a bit odd looking but it actually works well. the knob on top nearest pickguard is your volume, then tone, then the toggle switch.. Its got an alder body and a fairly modern neck radius.

I traded in my $20 MIC squier affinity (major POS.. ZOMG!) which I had snagged off craigslist some time ago.. they applied the trade value ($50!) towards the purchase and I was able to get an additional 15% off making my total purchase around $330 after tax. not too shabby.

I brought her home, installed straplocks and a custom neckplate I've had lying in my parts bin which I bought from greasygrove's ebay store a long while ago.

Nice to finally have a tele in my stable after I sold my '52 RI back in early 2000's. I must admit this is a great guitar that compares favorably to my '52 even though it isn't quite in the same league. but then again it was also like $1000 less expensive. I can see how many guys enjoy MIM guitars, as this one definitely has some character to her.

anyway on to the pics. note the copper burst finish is kinda difficult to photograph well

Absolutely love that!! I got a MIM blacktop tele with humbuckers and I can see a pickup change as well, but it's a great platform to build on.

I'm not sold on the control plate set up though, more than once my hand has collected the volume knob, ouch! I want to buy a plate with no holes and space the knobs the way I want. With the lever in the neck position it comes very close to the tone pot, not very user friendly sadly imo.

I'm not a tele fan, but I may have taken that one home myself. Very sharp!
