Boy, what a fun afternoon I'm having! The Kingsley Minstrel was bought on TGP pedal emporium from Paul from NY, selling his spare, and for a cool price at that (thanks, Paul!). :) I get the praise that's been given to this overdrive-not only is it the first tube OD that I've loved into a tube amp (well, I liked the Mesa V-Twin years ago, but not nearly as much), but also this is simply a first-rate overdrive, period. Great clarity, flexibility, rich, stringy tones and with three modes available taking one from light overdrive to enough to play heavier classic rock-what an incredible piece of gear.
The Freakshow Magic Rabbit brings together their rabbit (mod'd Rat) pedal with their boost pedal-I had a Lovekraft Chupacabra which did an "uber-rat" bunch of tones so well but had to sell it years back...this makes me no longer miss it! One can choose the core op-amp either with diodes, just the op-amp or the op-amp with led's for three distinct clipping options, something done elsewhere with a few TS-derived pedals, but a nice feature with a Rat-inspired one. I know for many people this kind of tone represents the better parts of 80's rock/metal tone, but for me it takes me to Jeff Beck's "There and Back"-era lead tones, rich and punchy with bags of sustain and that great Filter feature.
A fun afternoon, indeed. :)
