Use the "prtsc" (print screen) command. Then copy it into whatever file you want it in.

Yes, PrntScrn(Print Screen) is what my button is. Every keyboard I've seen has it.

1. press the "print screen" button on your keyboard.

2. open Microsoft Paint. On the Edit menu, click "paste"

3. crack open an ice cold Budweiser.

Print screen copies the screen to the clipboard, then open Paint and select Paste, then save that file to whatever format you wish (bitmap, jpeg, etc). Works great, I do this many times daily to copy screen shots to documents.

Here's another little Windows Paint trick. If you want to isolate a small portion of the screen, then do the above trick to copy and paste the whole screen shot into paint.

Next,

* use the cut out tool to make a box around what you want to save.

* Right click, then choose copy

* File/new/NO to the save?

* edit/paste.

Now, whatever you clipped out of the screen shot is all that's left.

You can use some combination of alt/ctrl/shift with the prntscrn to get different effects. I think ctrl-prntscrn grabs just the window with focus.

Play around with it as it is useful.

ALT+PRINTSCREEN will capture the active window, even if it's smaller than the entire screen.

Once you paste it into Paint, you can crop the image to just what you want from it. In Windows 7, it's very easy to do with the "Crop" tool. In older versions (Vista, XP) if you use the selection tool to highlight the area you want to isolate, then use the "EDIT/Copy To" option to save the selection to a separate file.

ctrl+shift+w, if that doesn't work, try alt+f4.

If you are using Windows 7, it comes built in with the 'Snipping Tool' which is a far far more powerful window capture tool, allowing you to capture just sections of the screen and save it as various file formats immediately, or put it in the clipboard.

It's all I use now.
