is there a website that will tell you the radius of the necks for each year? lol.... I have a 1990 strat ultra, I'm guessing its a 10 or 12? anyone know"? I played a V neck yesterday that 9.5 and whoa, seemed hugely different, is that because of the V throwing everything off?...

1990 strats and all standards have a 9.5" radius.
The "V neck" you played was a 7.25", which is the radius used in the vintage RI 57' Strats.
The difference you felt was because of the relatively bigger curvature of the fretboard.
Vintage style reissue necks come in "C" shape also which have a 7.25", too. (in 62' RI Strats)
Of course there are always the custom made necks from Warmoth, USACG, etc... which can be built to your specs.

In 1999, Fender changed their vintage reissue Strats fretboard radius from 9.5" to the original 7.25". Which is "better" is very subjective....but I prefer the 7.25".

Are you sure? I think the reissues were always 7.25". ? (excluding CS relics of course!) I know the ones all through the 80's and 90's that I played had a 7.25". Even the MIJ ones had the big curve to the board.

It is possible that neastguy played a V-neck in a 9.5" radius. The Jimmy Vaughn and the EC models both have soft V's and a 9.5' radius. I believe Fender may offer another model or two in the same configuration.

i'm pretty sure it was a 9.5, thats why I was so suprised by the diff in neck feel from a V to mine

The Strat Ultra would be 9.5". The US Vintage Reissues have always been 7.25" to my knowledge. What V-neck model did you play? The V shape and radius varies between models...

Ah, well it was definitely the V backshape that threw you off. I haven't played that model yet, but I'm a big fan of a fat V-shaped neck.
