Anyone have any links to schematics or repair guides for a Eden Time Traveler WT405.
My brother just called from an out of state gig, His Bassist just had one start billowing smoke 5 minutes before starting a gig OUCH!
It will be here Monday evening, so I can not say exactly what smoldered, but no doubt a SS PCB amp emitting smoke can not be an easy fix.

The best and only thing to do is to send it to the factory, or chalk up the lesson and invest in a different brand of amp.
If the thing smoked, there's not a lot of good repair advice on the internet.

Well, maybe, It has sure been a super reliable amp the past 2 years, 2-4 gigs a week for 2 years solid is not exactly what I call problematic.
It is just the lack of service docs and actually that is common of other brands as well.
We'll see when it gets here I guess.

Joined their forum, asked a few questions but no bites on answers. After reading over there a bunch it appears that their customer service is not what I would call encouraging. I did find out there is a service center here in Chicagoland. Likely I'll give them a shout after I inspect the damage.
I know the bassist spent a lot of coin on it new, but from what info I have located, its been discontinued a while and made it to the major vendor clearance lists.
It was mentioned in a couple threads that 475.00 - 600.00 is going price on new old stock? I found a couple for 699.00.
They are using a borrowed Ampeg for today's show, then we have till friday to find a solution. 6 shows in the next 9 days.
The amp was working for the sound check about 20 minutes, he left it on and went to cool off. He left the amp on and walked away, a bit later someone ran in the clubhouse to tell them it was on the stage smoking!
Last weekend it did a 3 hour outdoor show in mid 90's heat opening for Starship. No Problems, next night they played a gig indoors, no problem either.
Funny how these things just up and crap out.

Good luck with that one Trout! +1 to that! Let us know how it turns out. I hate working on solid state amps. It sounds like something in the power supply failed, but you never know til you look at it.
A buddy's got an Eden World Tour 800 and it sounds phenomenal with his fender Jazz bass. I'd kill for his bass tone. His was out on the road, few hundred gigs a year for a number of years and it was very reliable.
cheers,

Didn't he sell that company a few years ago.?

Yes I believe so. Sounds like sometime last year?

Hello Everyone,
This is Joe, I took over management of the Eden Electronics Brand when it was acquired by Jam Industries late last year.

Good Call Wade,
There is a 100 ohm resistor on the power supply section of the main board that is toast, no other visual damage. I still do not have possession of the amp yet though, My brother had to work 3 hours overtime tonight and was to fried too make the trek over. Tough day for cable repair guys in the current Chicago heat wave.
I found a picture of the amp internals online.
The 100 ohm resistor is on the lower right edge of the PS section between 2 chips on the chassis. Regulators maybe?
BTW, the amp had a paper towel sucked up into the cooling fan:facepalm

Those do burn quite nicely...

those 100 ohm (and the 10 ohm ones on other amps) fry dramatically, usually when one or more of the transistors they are connected to short out to the chassis or overheat (Paper towel, that'd do it).
The good news is that it should be fixable, but certainly easier if you can get Eden to talk to you.

Yeah, Turns out they closed the place out here in Chicagoland so info is going to be sketchy at best. You know the old song, Send it to our service center.
In the picture, the 100ohm 1W film resistor that burnt is elevated above the board unlike everything else mounted there, I suspect that heat was an issue in the first place.
The Auto-Fan is set to turn on at 140 degrees. I found some info on changing the thermistor to one that triggers at 100 degrees which I might install as a safeguard.
Like I said, this amp see's 9-16 hours of gig duty weekly and up until Saturday it has been flawless.
I'll post back once I get the testers latched in.
Here is a better view of the offending part.

hmmm, I'm pretty old and blind, but I don't see any toasted resistor. The ones I've seen fail are always pretty obvious, black, charred, some even burnt in two...

That's just a stock photo, the unit has the 100 ohm totally chard/blackened.

now that makes more sense <G>, sorry though...
Make sure you check the little resistors, diodes and associated smaller transistors around those two as well, they often get taken out when the bigger ones go.

i hate edens so much. i can't tell you how many world tour power amps i've had to rebuild. check every component in the power amp.

Whats a better choice should it need to be replaced? I mean he should really get a better amp and use this as backup. Mind you he is on a cop budget.

some of the older swr stuff is pretty sturdy, dunno if they're cheap or not. the only ones ive seen in the past 4 years were dead as the result of bad speakers.

Man, the boards in these are terrible! Well terribly delicate and the pads and traces lift so easy that your breath can mess it up.
Looks/tests like whatever died caused multiple fail points in both the power supply and power amp sections. The transistors bolted to the bottom of the chassis have been overheating, you can no longer read any of the print on them.
I managed to get from 2 very cool guys copies of the schematics, one has revisions/notes on it but its no longer possible to tell which version we have here.(Transistor & diode variances)
Looks like this ones going to be a total overhaul. OUCH
