View Full Version : Pedalboard Arrangement Options

Hey guys, so I'm close to "finalizing" my pedalboard, but need a little input on what I'm thinking. Right now, I'm trying to decide on a few layout options.

Note: Since pedalboardplannner doesn't have a Timmy or Hall of Fame, the Ecstasy + Timmy, and the Wet = Hall of Fame.

First, I need to land on a PT-1 or a PT-JR. The PT-1 would allow for an extra drive pedal + the MIDI Mouse for the Timeline. Downside is I would have to use a wallwart for the Timeline and it's bigger/heavier. The PT-JR would simplify things to 3 drives, no MIDI Mouse, just only what I need, no frills. It'd be smaller/lighter, and I wouldn't need the wallwart and could power everything nicely and easily off the PP2+.

The second thing is how to arrange the Timeline vs. Dirt. I've read a few threads about placing pedals for signal chain vs. convenience of placement. I've always been a "dirt bottom, mods/delays top" kind of guy. However, upon getting the Timeline, I realized how nice it would be to have it on the bottom row, for hitting two switches, using the looper, hold for infinite repeats, etc. I also rarely hit my Timmy since it's always on. Makes since to have that back row. I'm hitting my Lunar Module and Charlie brown a lot for stacking, and hit my Hall of Fame and Trem the least for sure. Tuner and boost are in the middle.

Sooooo... which of these should I go for? Any input on my mad-man rambling above? Thanks for any opinions you could throw into the mix.

There needs to be a pedalboard planner app.

I'd go with PT Jr #1 but swap the Timmy and BnB, and then swap the Timmy and the tuner.

Yeah, I'd go with #2.

I never can use PedalPlanner since it doesn't have pedal brands I own (like EHX). :/

I like PT-1 option 2 the best

There needs to be a bigger selection of pedals. Some very basic pedals like DMM can't be found there. In fact I can't find half of my pedals there...

Yeah, that too. Over half of my board is BJFe...

Yah it's weird they don't have some pretty standard pedals but have a bunch of other "off brands."

I would go with option 2... keep the OD, up front & delay/verb at the end. What about wah or volume pedal? If so, put the tuner in "tuner out" output of your volume pedal.

Which ever way you go, the Timeline will be far more practical on the first row. Trying to use the tap tempo feature with it on the second row will most likely end up being awkward.

That's how I'm using it now, and I really wish it was lower... also the "hold for infinite repeats" function is a bummer cuz I end up balancing on one foot for a whole verse while the beautiful pad just keeps on going...

Bottom row seems like the ticket, it's just the wiring gets all screwy with those options... :messedup

PT Jr #1, swap BnB with Tuner

Well regardless of which layout you choose, I vote PT-1. I have one, and it's a good size board. It's big enough to have a few extras, but not so big that it's not portable.

Do you have the briefcase? I've read so many comments about it being flimsy and cheap feeling... What say you?

As an update to this thread, I've gone with the PT-JR, and am going to try both options in person to see which one I prefer. I'm also seriously thinking of getting these to boost whatever is on the back row to make it more accessible:

I'm going to say this really big so that you understand...

TIMELINE IN FRONT

Seriously. Unless you elevate it somehow, you're going to want the TL on the front row. Unless you're either considerably more dexterous than I am or never plan to use the Looper, infinite repeats trick or select A/B presets with your feet.

YMMV, but I doubt it.

TIMELINE IN FRONT

Yah, the more I use the Timeline, the more I need it right in front of me.

I tried using the "hold for infinite repeats" and could only balance for 20 seconds or so until I got really uncomfortable and gave up. Would be much better to rest my heel on the ground and have my toe on the switch.

For anyone interested in how it turned out, here's a pic. I got an extra pedal on top as well; tight squeeze but it works well.
