Yes and yes. After falling in love with another DeArmond I picked up a natural S-73 from Craigslist and I absolutely love it. I've always been a big Guild fan (love my Bluesbird) and had always jones'd for a S-100, but never had the cash when one popped up. Well the DeArmond completely satisfied my S-100 GAS. I could not imagine that any S-100 on the planet is as good of a guitar as my S-73. The neck is solid as a rock and I've never had to adjust it. It's got a super low action and the neck is fairly thin. It's much more balanced than any SG I've owned/tried and the hardware/electronics are fantastic. I even picked up a Starfire Special after I got it because I loved it so much. Can't speak for all of them, but every Korean DeArmond I've played has been a fantastic instrument.

Those are terrific. If it still has the original DeArmond Goldtone humbuckers, you will be making out like a bandit with that deal.

You, good sir, need to play an S-100. Just sayin. :nuts:p
I have both...well...multiples of the S-100 and one S-73. The S-73 has the shape of the S-100s, but that is where it ends. The neck is chunkier, it has a really thick candy-like poly finish and the Goldtone pups. The S-73 is very bright and chimey.
It's a nice guitar, I like it and I would say it's a pretty even trade for a good MIM Strat. Mine is natural with Sperzel locking tuners installed and was only $250. My MIM Strat was $220 at a pawn shop.
My oldest kiddo loves the S-73, so he plays it more than I do now cuz it wasn't getting much use from me with all the Guilds hanging around. :D

Say what you will, but mine is incredible. It's not completely stock. A previous owner installed a set of Bill Lawrence L-100 pickups and a fine tuner tailpiece, but it is the most solid Gibbo-style guitar I've ever owned and would not trade it straight up for an S-100 sight unseen.

Have you ever played a real S-100, especially a vintage one?

Those are nice really sounding pickups.

I'm sure it is nice and I'm not bashing your choice, but...the D vs the G...it's night and day bro. D is to Guild what Epi is to Gibbo. And I have Epis I love that are excellent players, but nowhere near their Gibbo counterparts. I bought a G-400 Vintage Faded cuz I wanted a 61 Reissue and couldn't find one local to suit me. Plays great. I finally found a 61 Reish and...holy carp. Same thing happened with an LP Standard. The Epi is nice, but the Gibbo is pure magic. I bought the S-73 out of curiousity after already owning 2 or 3 S-100s. It's a nice guit, but just like the Epis to the Gibsons, it doesn't hold a candle.
If you do ever come across a vintage or early reissue S-100, buy it and DON'T fall madly in love...I will buy it from you...and I'm sure there'd be a line behind me too.

I had an S 73 which was a cool guitar. Now have the 12 string version, which is a really fine instrument for the price. Much heavier built than the 6-string, and it has the 2k pickups instead of humbuckers. Excellent!

Congrats Burro! I've never played the S-73 but I've owned several of the Goldtone DeArmonds (M-72, M-75, two Jet Stars) and they were all great guitars.
Now, PICS!
