All,

I am running a 'Super Jam' tomorrow night in memory for a former Bass player of mine who sadly passed away recently. The jam takes place after his funeral and will run from 9pm-midnight.

Jams are quite prevalent in the area and always run in the same way. Mates (often band mates) try to get up together and those who don't know anyone all get thrown up their together and so you get very polished sections and very unpolished sections. What you do not get is much actual jamming.

As this is a one off, and there will be more people there than normal, I thought we could try something different.

Any ideas??

How does/did your favourite jam run?? Ideas from past and present requested.

Thanks.

Cheers,
Phil

when I hosted jams I emphasized that it was actually a jam and not a band showcase or open mic. I think the purpose was people playing together that do not normally play together. ALWAYS have a leader, two guitar max (unless I was the 3rd cause I can be quiet) one harp player. I did not use a sign up sheet or go in order cause that would not guarantee a leader/singer would be onstage. It did not always go over well to the folks that showed up with their band but if it's time to change the bass player and you are bass player then pony up can't wait until your mate's friend. Stay home and play with your mate, this is a jam that's why you are here.

i didn't use a regular band just whoever wanted to get up first cause it is a jam

I did not like band showcases disguised as jams in the past so i discouraged it
