Admittedly I am in the honeymoon phase, but the Wampler Ecstasy is really knocking me out; especially since it can be a jack of all trades (treble boost through high-gain distortion).

Germanium fuzzface. Mine's a Sunface NKT. Guitar volume on 10=mondo compression and saturation; 9=orgainic, transparent crunch; 7=light breakup; 6=totally transparent clean. Meets all your criteria, and you don't ever have to turn the damn thing off, let alone tweak any pedal knobs...

I do use only one at present, and it is a Boss SD-1, modded by Pedalmods UK.
And it does it all: A monstrously loud boost which works brilliantly as a treble booster, nasty grit, the best SD-1 sound I've ever heard, and the perfect SD-1 solo boost: Louder and a bit tighter.
The only thing I now need is more of them, so that I can have access to all of the modes. :aok

I wondered about the Fettos for a time, but I just can't stomach spending that kind of money on a non-tube OD when I can get a real tube (pre-) amp with Kingsley for not much more. Maybe if the Fettos cost around $200, or even a little more, I would be all over them...

the Fetto probably has the most highly useable range i've heard in a pedal, try turning the gain way down and the volume up... gorgeous light breakup. get to like 2:00 on the gain dial and its the perfect lead tone. crank it and you've got stack-style rhythm distortion.
I do love the Kingsley too but even though its not tube-based the Fetto's tone is just so good.

If you want a Rat, get a white face Rat. The 85 is generally the beloved one but it's much easier and cheaper to find a White Face Rat Reiussue. The vintage big box Rat is also as good, and I think it's the same exact thing. Since you mentioned Emma and the Goosoniqueworks Seventheaven, I'm guessing you might be looking for a versatile high gain pedal? I voted for the Fetto Deluxe as the pedal I'd keep because it does low to fairly high gain and is just so great and hard to replace and I can always use one of my high gain amps for the really heavy distortion. However, it would still be very hard for me to live without a dedicated high gain distortion and the good ones can clean up well for the lower gain stiuff. If I was to have to pick a pedal like that, that could clean up and get to fully saturated distortion, it would be hard for me to give up my Weehbo Morbid Drive. It's in the same kind of category as the Emma, Seventheaven, Triple Wreck, Tube Zone, Openhaus, Dominator, etc, but after owning all of those pedals, it's definitely my favorite. The closest thing to an Engl and/or Mesa in a box I've found, most amp-like and tight, super thick, great cleanup, etc. If you like Marshally distortion more, the Wampler Plextortion is another one that cleans up amazingly for lower gain tones and gets fully saturated JCM type tones. I've owned a lot of high gain distortions, including $500+ Cornish and Toneczar stuff, and the two that I have left are a 7-knob Plextortion and Weehbo Morbid Drive. Not that there aren't other great pedals out there. I'd love to keep them all! Lots of pedal builders to give credit to out there..

BTW, the Ethos is one of the best preamp type pedals, especially for going direct and it's cool that it has the two channels, but ultimately I think there are much cheaper pedals that sound better as regular dirt boxes into an amp.

Plextortion or SuperPlex?...difference?...7 knob?..
Regular Plextortion. The SuperPlex just isn't quite as good, IMO, and that's kind of the general consensus. I don't think Brian Wampler thought it was quite as good as his Plextortion and Pinnacle, either, because he decided to discontinue it and replace it with something else, which he supposedly only does if he thinks it could use some improvement. The Plextortion is really a gem though. I just happen to have a rare 7 knob one, but they're very rare. It's a two channel version but I've owned the regular version and they're basically the same as far as the general sound.

I know, and their stuff has blown me away so far. I want all of those pedals. Really nice stuff.
I usually run things pretty clean but some of my lower wattage amps get to the edge of breakup at band volumes. I mostly use a Mesa Transatlantic at rehearsals and small gigs. Sometimes a tween Deluxe and a tweed Bassman or BF Twin Reverb for bigger gigs. I also use a Sunn Model T or Soldano but for different styles of music, usually not with pedals or just a boost pedal.

No I just knew the Helldrive was a lesser gain more Marshally pedal and I have Marshall distortions covered well. There's plenty of great ones of those, but I was still searching for the perfect Mesa-ish modern high gain metal and hard rock pedal. The Morbid is just the heaviest modern high gain one and the only one really made to compete with the Openhaus, Triple Wreck, Dominator, Seventheaven, etc. Which is what I wanted.

I just did a review on the SolidGoldFX's SuperDrive:
http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=935095
A few on this board really supports this pedal, and I now know why... it is so natural sounding, like an extension of your amp. It may not be the most diverse, in terms of different tones, etc., (I like the Empress Multidrive for that reason), but the SuperDrive is so darn nice sounding.

After spending some serious time with the following:
Keeley TS-9, Tone Monk SOL2, Boiling Point OD, Eternity Fuse, and MP Sweet Honey OD (pcb)
I have decided that all of these are bad ass and have a ton of range in each pedal. If I had to choose one of these I would walk with the Tone Monk, but any would serve me well. The Tone Monk has this ripping thing right at the beginning of whatever you play. It is subtle but it reminds me of a tone bender type thing for a millisecond before the note blossoms. I have also spent some time rotating the order of these pedals asking different ones to do the duty of boost, light, medium, and heavy. They a are very versatile. The SHOD might not have as much gain on tap, but with my rig it gets pretty mean, especially stacked. I also got the SHOD to sound a lot like my Beano boost. I still prefer the Beano for that spot. As you well know YMMV. If you are me, with my style, taste, and rig I think you would be hard pressed to choose the best one of the bunch. I sure can't, and that is why I have 5 dirt boxes on my board.

Just one? Easy. My '86 blackface RAT. It does everything I need, and I have gigged and recorded for decades with it as the only dirt Unit on my board, cutting whole albums without turning it off, controlling dirt intensity from the guitar. Then I found TGP, and now I combine it with other gainboxes - but I could go back to just that old steel-box easily.

Yep, Empress Multidrive, hands down, no contest. If I could only have one pedal, the Multidrive would be a strong contender.
And I prefer to think of it as 5 in 1. The 'distortion' circuit delivers three very distinct flavors (mild, crunch, lead) on top of the 'overdrive' and 'fuzz' circuits. The 'distortion' alone could have been a hugely successful 3 in 1 pedal.
Everyone needs to try a Multidrive, truly awesome pedal.

It would be a toss up between a Rat (I use a Freakshow Rabbit w/ a toggle switch but almost always leave it on the conventional Rat setting) and a Skreddy Screw Driver Deluxe. The Rat would probably win, though, in a pinch. Tons of gain on tap if you need it (usually don't put the gain knob past 11:00), but still has a nice overdriven sound on lower gain settings through a clean amp. Sounds great w/ my DRRI.

Paul Cochrane Tim... I know I know... but I have, and love, the Timmy, and I figure if I have to pick one drive pedal that the Timmy would do it, and with a boost to kick it up a notch... Yeah I'd be happy.

Way Huge Pork Lion
