Any firearms enthusiasts on the board? I am well on my way to becoming one. Last week I purchased my first gun, a Glock 22 RTF (.40S&W), for self defense and cap-blastin' fun ;) Have fired 235 rounds through it so far and I am enjoying it a lot. Now I am thinking about a second handgun, maybe a .22 or a 9mm (or a .45ACP :aok)

I have been amused to see the numerous similarites between Gun People and Guitar People, and the whole process itself.

So show me your (other) rig! ;)

There are a lot of firearms enthusiasts on this site as well as many detractors. You may get flamed for posting about guns on a musician's site, but I understand there are a lot of us who also enjoy collecting and shooting nice firearms. I have four Glocks, a really nice Henry rifle and too many others to list. Enjoy your new firearm, store it safely and learn the local laws so that you don't run afoul of the police. If you haven't taken a safety course, it is a good thing to do so. Your next pistol, if I may be presumptuous for a moment, should be a really good 22 calibre to plink with. You won't regret it. Welcome to your next round of G.A.S. Brett.

Looks like fun. I have 2 ruger handguns a P90 .45 and a well worn MKI .22 I really like shooting shotguns better. I curentlly have a 870 12 gauge that I love. I have had a few Beretta O/U and I just seem to shoot better with my old 870. The Beretta's are far nicer weapons and much prettier. I love em all

Nice piece op, I would consider a .22 just for ammunition cost reasons.

I think you'll find that there's quite a few of us firearm lovin' folk on this site. Very nice Glock you got there. Here's mine. It's a .40 Model 35 longslide. The slide was custom coated in Stainless. I then added an aluminum Carver mag well, a titanium guide rod and some grip tape much like yours.

And here is my latest. I bought it two weeks ago. It's a Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm.
Straight out of the box it's the most accurate pistol I've ever owned.

As far as .22LR pistols go, I have looked at Buckmarks and MkII/IIIs and that ugly Beretta phaser looking thing but I haven't shot any yet. The local range has a MKII I should rent sometime.

Yeah, my roommate must have 1000rds of .22 in the closet. Definitely a more economical choice.

When I worked at the music store I always had guys in there who liked guitars and guns. Sold a gator case once to a guy who gutted it for a rifle. :D

But this is Alabama, after all. ;)

Oooh Bob I like your slide. There is a guy on eBay that will polish a stock slide for about $100. But That is pretty far down the list of priorities ;) Yes, I bought a Talon Grip 'cause the Hickock45 youtube guy raves about them, and they're $10. It worked well today.

Check out the Ruger MKIII 22/45. It has the same control layout and feel as a 1911 so if you ever step to a .45 1911 it makes a nice transition.

I have a sig p225 9mm, an h & k 45 acp, and 2 s & w 686 revolvers.....one is a 2" and the other a 4". I am really fond of the 4" revolver. 38 caliber is fun for me to shoot.

I've been a gun nut since childhood. When other kids were getting bikes and footballs and such for Christmas, I was getting old Winchester 22 rifles and such.

My latest aquisition-

Yep. That is my next handgun purchase.

Let me rub it in for you then. ;)

If I had to do it again though, I would get the model with removable grips.

Nice revolver! Model 29?

Yes, it's a Model 29-2 with the target trigger and hammer. I also have a later model 29 Classic with an 8 3/8 inch barrel that has a 2x Leupold scope on it.

I've got a 29-10. One of the only pistols I've ever bruised my hands with.

Just try some different grips - I always had problems with my finger getting pinched inbetween the trigger guard and the grips. When I switched to the Pachmayer Presentation grips, all that went away. I tried Grippers first (which I use on a lot of other S&W revolvers) but they pinched my finger even worse.

I've never gotten around to photographing it yet, but I've got a Model 27 8 3/8 inch that I had converted to 357/44 Bain & Davis a few years ago. Really accurate, REALLY loud, and somewhat of a pain in the ass to handload for. Fun gun though!

I just bought some Pachmayr Gripper Professionals for it. I think they may help a little but the back strap is still exposed. I think they key idea is to not shoot 200 rounds on any given day like I did recently. :crazy

What do you all think of this? It is local. I've not seen one for this cheap.

The price is okay. Any idea what year it was made? If it's from the 50s that could be pretty cool.

My last gun purchase was cheap, USA made, and fun fun fun. Hi Point's 9mm carbine. $180 new with a life time warranty. I ended up putting an aftermarket stock on it, a Red Dot scope, and 2 extra mags for about $300 total. 10 rounds in a 2" group at 50 yards all day long. 9mm can be had for $200 per 1000 so practicing double taps in groups of paper plates is cheap and fun. I haven't heard too many good things about Hi Points hand guns but I have yet to hear or read a bad review on the carbine. The only bitch, besides being ugly, is the 10 round magazines, which are a product of being designed during the Clinton assault weapon ban.

OP, I don't think anyone else has mentioned this, but IMO, the .40 S&W and 9mm are just similar enough that I don't see a need for both. I have a CZ 75 in 9mm that I wish I'd gotten in .40, and I might trade the 9mm TOWARDS the .40, but really don't see a reason to own both.

To me, "Condition Fair" is enough to scare me away from that. While you're getting the serial #, ask for an HONEST description of the bore - my guess is it's trashed.

As you can tell by my name, I prefer m1911 45 Autos more than ANY Firearm available. However, I have a great deal of respect for Glocks.
They are putrid-ugly, but they NEVER fail.....they take a licking and keep on ticking.
I equate Glocks to that of the ugliest tool in the tool box.....maybe like a Hammer....simple yet never fails to deliver on it's design criteria.
My son has at least a dozen Glocks, and I own a G-36.
We have multiples in all of these models G17's, 19's, 21's, 26's, and 36's.
My son likes the G19 the best, while I prefer the G-21.
The G-19 is fairy small to carry, yet holds 15 rounds of 9mm.
The G-36 is similar in size to the 19, and holds 6 rounds of 45 ACP.

I LOVE the Glock-21 though! 13 Rounds of 45 Auto.
It's a GREAT gun to throw in your Fishing Bag and you never have to worry about rusting, etc.

Do you plan on carrying concealed?
(You probably already know all of what I'm about to say)
If so, be VERY careful carrying your Glock (in similar to Condition #1)....Round in Chamber, Safe-Action Mode.
Did you buy a Holster yet?
Make sure whatever you buy, the holster securely covers the entire trigger and trigger-guard area.
Even though there is the safty-spring in the center of the trigger, just make sure you keep your finger and anything else AWAY from the trigger, guard, etc.
When I carry my G-36 concealed, I never have a live round in the barrel. I simply fill the magazine and insert it up inside the handle. I also don't have a decent holster for it, instead I carry it loosly in a coat pocket and it does feel just like the proverbial "Bar-of Soap"....all smooth and rounded edges.

Since you've already committed to 40 S&W, I'd buy another gun in that round. I'd get a Glock-23 next, then a G-27 after that.
The reason I suggest these similar models is that they operate exactly the same, which can/will be invaluable if ever faced with a "High-Stress Situation" involving you and your hand-gun. (I pray to God that this NEVER happens to me in my life).
When I go to the Range, I practice with my gun concealed in its holster, then draw to my chest, extend arms and sight aquisition simultaneously, press trigger.
They say it takes at least 10,000 repetitions of the same motions to become physiologically ingrained to muscle memory.
This could become invaluable if one would ever be faced with a "High-Stress Situation"....vs. fumbling around, etc.

Plus if you stick with the same (40 S&W) round, you have less to think about regarding buying or re-loading just one size of ammo, cleaning supplies, etc.

I got tired of trying to inventory a bunch of different cartridge sizes and having to remember if I had ammo in this size or that prior to going to the range.
Now, I ONLY shoot 45 ACP and .22LR....That's It!!

One last peice of (free) advice....not that you've asked for ANY of this :D

Don't let anyone talk you into any of the more "exotic" cartridges....such as a 357-SIG.....while that is a GREAT Cartridge relative to Ballistic Performance, I like to buy stuff that is way more readily available....like 9mm & 45-ACP, 22-LR. From gun shops to Wallmart, it's nice to have availablity regardless of where you may travel.

Alright....I'm finished...I promise...
Good luck!
Mark

I thought about the compact 9mm, the G19. The G23's recoil was annoying. I shot a G21 and it was fun but pretty similar to the .40 IMO. I like the even bigger frame.

I think that Ruger is a '69 which is cool, going to confirm that and lowball them tomorrow.
