Stereo system's speaker cable in guitar cab?

Last night I was swapping speakers in my 4x12 for some experiments and found I didn't have enough cables to connect all of them. You know, the kind of cable that connects speakers inside the cab, not the one used between amp and the speaker jack. I happen to have some regular stereo system speaker cable left, but not sure if I can use them in my cab. Can anyone help?

wire is wire. i've used an extension cord before. one of those cheap 2-wire jobs.

I use regular speaker wire from Radio Shack. I forget what gauge.
