I think this is smart buying. If you aren't an idiot and you aren't susceptible to people overpricing you can really get a good deal. If someone has a guitar they haven't thought about selling they might be willing to sell it if they knew someone had cash waiting to buy it. Also, someone with a guitar they may have posted for 1250 could be willing to sell for 1100 if they knew they had a definite buyer. Seems like a win win for sellers and buyers to me.
