All Wah freaks,

I have a Budda wah pedal but there are a couple things I don't like about it. I just started using it again after a long time on the shelf and have noticed the following flaws.

It really gives you a wah sound but I find it goes from dark to bright really quickly. This is probably what makes it wah so much but I am looking for something which extends this transition. It also doesn't seem t have much complexity to the tone and seems kind of flat. I can rock it from full bass until it transitions into treble but the bass doesn't seem to change much (the tone doesn't seem to gain any highs before transition). It's almost like a tone pot on your guitar that doesn't work too well.

Anybody play something which addresses these issues? I'm leaning towards the Teese RMC1 or 3, how are they?

Thanks guys.

I have a TMC3LE and love it. Sounds exactly like your descritpion. Also, the old Fulltone Clyde is a great wah, rich with a wide sweep as well.

I like the Buddas I've tried. My Vox V847--now THAT'S a dog.

I had a Teese custom voiced RMC1 that I never should've gotten rid of. Hands down the best sounding wah I've ever heard. It was vocal, rude, smooth, musical--all those superlatives you hear people use when trying to describe a quality pedal. If you use even just a fair amount of wah, I can't see not springing for a RMC1, or maybe one of the upper end models. They are that good, especially when compared to the Dunlops and Voxes that I've played.

The Fulltone Clyde has more upper midrange than the Teese Wahs. It's also brighter and smoother. The Teese Wahs have more of a lower mid emphasis and are a bit more aggresive sounding than the Fulltone, even the Picture. Can't go wrong with either. I'd love to try a Proanalog though.

I think should have solved my problem, I bought a Teese picture wah. Anyone ever try one?

Thanks Peacock, I figured with over 50 HC reviews and a rating of 9.8 for sound quality that it wouldn't be too much of a gamble. I can't wait to try it. I anticipate a Budda wah sale soon.

I bought a Picture Wah last year when a great deal came up that I couldn't pass on. I already had 4 great vintage wahs that I was totally happy with.......until I got the Pic wah. It is just too nice not to play so the rest stay in the closet now.

I think you will be very happy with the sound: very vocal, good clarity, never piercing or brittle, great complex harmonics. Lastly, Teese is a great guy to deal with and his products are built to last forever.

I own a budda wah. I agree that the high end isn't quite right, to piercing. But before putting it up for sale, think I'll adjust the pot travel and tinker with the pedal sweep and range first.

I bought the Vox and was not to impressed with it. I modded it by making it true bypass and then I put a fulltone pot and inductor in it. You do have to play with it to seat the pot correctly within the gear arm so that the sweet spot is where you want it. I must say I'm pretty happy with it now.

a teese wheels of fire or wizard wah might float your boat. they're both very thick and complex.

There's some reviews on HC, and I meant do a search here. Or just call Scotty. He'll give you the rundown.

I did a search here and found 4 threads. I just wanted to see a picture of it.

They all are different. Mines in a early '60's Clyde VOX case. I know of one guy who has one in a FOXX case... and there are other casings too.

It's really a custom order incognito type of thing....

hope that helps,

Alex

What about a Chicago Iron Parachute?

Look at them here: (http://www.chicagoiron.com/)

There's a very simple mod to add modrange to your stock crybaby or vox pedal. It's one resistor swapped out, and it adds mids while also smoothing the sweep from heel to toe.

What Wah did you finally end up with after all these years Harry...?

I went thru
Q95
Picture
Clyde
Wilson
RMC1

I actually miss the Q95, mainly because "chasing" tone was a costly endeavour. I settled on the RMC1, and it seems to be somewhat unloved (read: cheap) but for me I found it had the smoothest midrange (not as much mid hump) and a slightly darker hi end. Main thing withe the other boutiques I tried was the midrange, or the "quacky, pukey" part was just too strong, and would overdrive my amp. I think this is a certain sound people look for in vintage wahs, and the picture was great at this.
Since you mentioned smooth midrange, I immediately thought "yes, that's why I like the RMC1."
Edit: it sounds great w/ my les paul, btw.

when it came time for me to upgrade my wah, I too tried the Budda, but I ended up returning it and got an RMC1 for about $25 more at the time.

yes, the RMC1 has low mids and a slight boost, but I find it just right with a strat. It's very vocal and has a little more travel and a better sweep than some other wahs. It's just a lot of fun to play.

I would like to test a Clyde sometime just to check it out, and lately I've considered getting an Area 51 kit for another wah I have.

If you want to take a different approach to the Grail search, you should get the BYOC board and have at.

If you ever get a chance to play a Zvex Wah Probe, give it a try. Nothing gets as juicy or has nearly as interesting midrange as the Probe. When I was shopping for a new Wah after foolishly selling my original Probe, I figured that the WOF would be the one. It wasn't even close. I ended up with another Wah Probe.

Of the more traditional Wahs, I prefer the Clyde.

I would definitely vote the RMC6 Wheels Of Fire. I got it for the exact reasons you described and it sounds just right to me. Much more powerful than the Picture.
