View Full Version : WET = bad vibes?

I've been considering dropping the WET due to mysterious bad vibes. Don't get me wrong . . . it sounds great to my ears, it just does not sit well in my gut if that makes any sense at all. It's unfortunate, really, because it was practically made for the ambient/drone soundscapes I really enjoy making. I'm prepared to be run out of town for this unusual claim, trust me. The only person I've read that didn't like the WET for any similar reason is CRXSH.
I brought this up in the recent Flashback/HOF thread, thought a separate conversation would be appropriate.
On a more practical note, would the HOF be a comparable unit in terms of the clean, vast reverb offered by the WET?

Huh? why would you get 'bad vibes' from a pedal?

I have a WET but I much preferred the Dr Scientist RRR..
I'm getting a matamp series 2000 soon so all my reverb troubles will be over forever!!!

Does it sound too "digital" to you?

I didn't like the WET because I wanted a more realistic sounding reverb. At the time I only had room for one reverb pedal on the board I was running — and while the WET excelled at the long decay ambient thing, it just didn't work for me as a standalone pedal. Plus, I swear there's some kind of weird modulation thing going on in that box that just didn't settle well. Maybe that's what you're referring to. And maybe I'm just crazy.

I had a Wet and a HoF and got to a/b them extensively. I actually preferred the HoF and sent the Wet back. Nothing concrete I can point to and I pretty much just use the Room with a View toneprint. I was expecting to be blown away by the Wet and it was just meh.

The op makes no sense.
The wet is awesome. The HOF is awesome.
For standard verb, get the HOF...... duh :dunno

i don't think the wet is the most flexible reverb out there, but it definitely gets the job done well. it sounds killer, and its bone simple to use!

The Wet is amazing. While it can be used a subtle reverb (which has a more plate like feel, but far less metallic), it excels most at long washy ambience.
If you're looking for a versatile reverb with various settings, this is not the one. But if you want to add an amazing ambient reverb, this is worth putting on your board.

I had a Wet but it did sound a little digital to me. I am sticking with my Hermida reverb, it sits in the mix better and feels more natural. Same Belton module as the Wet, but they feel and sound quite different to my ears.

I don't believe that's true- I think Neunaber has always said the Wet uses a unique module design.

the wet i think is beautiful man, did you have the mix mod on yours? you say the ambient thing...it does the infinite decay just perfect to me and im into the ambient thing. my last 2 videos i did...the first one doesn't start out 100% ambient but gets there and the mix and decay at both at 3 o clock...the 2nd video i have them both maxed and yeah. im also running the wet into my HOF...

if you get bad vibes from any piece of equipment, i'd advise you to do one of two things: stop playing with it

This is the best part of the pedal, in my opinion! The modulation is gorgeous. I love how it has almost a "delay" kind of feel to it. I think it does a really good job at capturing the feel of a large hall, in a way - you can almost hear the reverberations bouncing around the room, decaying and modulating. Nothing else like it. I like to keep the mix and depth knobs at around 3:00 for most of the stuff I do.
As far as the HoF vs the WET, for me it was no contest. I had to have the WET. The HoF was very "blah" to my ears, especially at longer settings...the decay was too static and not dynamic enough for me. It was as if the wet signal was just a flat, linear volume decrease. It sounded great for shorter, "touch-of-space" kinds of sounds, but that's not the kind of reverb I use. I like to just let the actual room do that.

You are correct, it does not use the Belton module. I'm actually quite surprised by all of the "boutique" pedal folks that use that device. Makes me wonder...

WET over HoF, no contest IMO. Something overblown and static about the base quality of the HoF.

I am totally confused by the OP. You really like the sound of the WET, but you think it is giving you bad karma or something? Isn't what your ears think the most important when it comes to sound/tone? I have one of the original, blue WET pedals, so my experience may be different, but I use it for a touch of reverb into my tweed Deluxe and it does this better than any other pedal I've tried.

Unfortunately, I had to get rid of my WET too.
Great pedal, but it kept telling me to do things that were the complete opposite of what my microwave tells me to do.....................

I just spent some quality time with the Neunaber WET , wow , I was very impressed, super lush and high end rack sounding, I like controlling reverb depth and tail via expression pedals and when I read they are coming out with a stereo wet with two expression pedal ports I put one on order. I've been looking for a small reverb for my real estate challenged board but one that i could control without reaching down to twiddle knobs. I can't wait to get it.

for me, the Wet is the best I've tried for lush, beautiful reverb.
granted, I have yet to try the space.. but up against anything else, the Wet just wins hands down. really looking forward to the new model!

the space is amazing, heard it demoed at NAMM in January don't have the room on my board for it though, or the $ right now. maybe down the road, but I love the simplicity of the Wet, two knobs, easy and strait forward. Sure do love my Time Factor, one of the coolest ducking delay presets on the market, great for use at high settings with 110% feedback , every time you play new material the self oscillation gets ducked , every time you stop playing the self oscillation returns with brand new content.. gives that notes hanging in mid air feeling. sweet

I found it to sound gritchy and not very smooth through my JTM100 clone. It seemed to be kind of lightweight and flimsy, especially when plugging in to the jacks. I know it has a much larger footprint, but I like the VanAmps SoleMate as well as anything in pedal form.
