Unfortunately I'm currently Anderson-less, having just sold mine on ebay. I'm waiting for a koa-topped HDT with 3Ms and a solid RW neck to be finished some time within the next few weeks.

hehehe...enjoy that, mate...you'll LOVE those M's....definitely my favourite Andy pickup yet.
I'd be interested in doing another cobra in Tiger Eye Burst with M's (M1, M1, M3).

Thanks, Dave. I'm sure I'll love it. I'm still a little unsure if going with all 3Ms was better than going 2Ms and a full HB in the bridge. I think overall from what I've heard of the Ms, I'll like them better. I'm not playing much that requires a full on bridge HB these days.
How's the new HDT with the bigger neck working out?

the neck is actually about the same as the Cobra...and considering i like the cobra neck, this is a good thing. I never paid too much attention to Anderson's standard sizing, etc. so, i didn't know what to expect. that being said, i actually prefer the mahogany neck to the maple one...*shrug*
overall, a very good guitar and little bassy right now...trying to tweak 'round some stuff to get it a little more bright.
here's a quicky recording with a FD2 and some delay on that guitar.

Keep this pictures coming, is very good to see how nice guitars Andersons are.
I don't understand how Tom Anderson guitars are underrated.
Appears to me that TGP members prefers Suhrs, Chapins, etc.
For strat and tele type guitars nothing beats Andersons.

I don't understand their unpopularity here either compared to the other brands you mentioned. I don't really pit one against the other though. All those guitars are great. Barring some huge revolution in technology and design, I don't think better guitars than all of those can be built. They're all such high quality that it's pure preference at that point.
Dave, I'm on a Linux box right now and I don't have the plugin installed that will allow me to play .wma files. I'll check out that clip when I get on a Windows box.
Cheers,
Dave
Edit - Found out mplayer plays .wma. Clip sounds pretty good (though I think you mixed it a little hot -- was there breakup, or is it my speakers?). I can tell the guitar sounds nice though. Doesn't sound too dark to me.

I don't have any pics of my guitars alone, but here is a photo someone took last weekend. The Cobra is a '96 NAMM guitar that I fell into a few years back. Don't know which is more outrageous....the guitar top or my shirt. I love the feel of this guitar, but I'm not happy with the tone...too bright and modern for me. I'm pickup shopping right now.

The Anderson mini-humbuckers are not as bright as the H series. Everyone I know raves about them.

Thats a great thing about Anderson (and Suhr), you can pretty much buy one without playing it and know it will play superbly. Serious craftsmanship, great guitars!! My struggle was finding the right neck carve, cost me thousands to find I prefer the 62 roundback and "Pete Anderson" carve.
What the heck, heres a pic of my first one that I no longer have, sold it because of the floyd but man it played and sounded fantastic.

Is that a hollow tele? Also, how do you like the VA pickups in your classic (if that is what is in there?)
Yes, it is a hollow T with contours. A cool guitar with a wide range of tones. I ordered this guitar back in '98 and it has been my main electric until last year.
I really like the VA pickups in the classic. Most of the time I use them in the vintage mode versus the more modern sound. But both tones are very valid and sound good. There doesn't seem to be as much hum as in a lot of other single coils that I have used. I'm really enjoying this guitar (only had it for a couple of months).

What's your main guitar now?
Thanks for the opinion on the VA's. . . I'm thinking that my next Anderson might have to be a classic.
Currently it is a toss up between the TA Classic and a Don Grosh Set Neck.
Until I discovered the Grosh set necks, I had never been a big fan of LP style guitars, plus I always leaned towards single coil tones. But the Grosh turned me into a humbucker lover. I have really enjoyed this guitar, but I started having GAS pains for a strat style guitar again. So I ended up with the TA Classic. Two guitars that have entirely different feel and sounds with the Hollow T as a mix of the two.
I would love to get an Atom. It is one of the guitars that I have been most impressed with but my wife would kill me if I splurged for one now. LOL

Just a guess, but Anderson lots of times does this:
2 Bridge coils
1 Bridge coil
Both pickups
1 Neck coil
2 Neck coils
Then you can push the tone pot to get humbuckers in the both pickup position and pull it out to get one coil of each.

If you are talking about my Red atom Special it has two humbuckers. And the above switch is correct. Also what is cool about mine is the mahgoney top and bing hollow it wieghs in at only 5lb's.

[quote=olectric]Man, that is beautiful! You've got the old-school headstock, too. What is the top? Maple?[/quote
Thanks, yeah its maple with a Pau Ferro board.Switcheroo but without the internal DIP switches. It was a great find here in the UK a few years back; having missed out on ordering one new with that headstock by a few weeks in 1990 from Chandlers of Kew(UK original importer).I searched in vain for one of these for 10 years. That headastock is plain perfection.
I discovered this one for sale on a website whilst holidaying on the other side of the globe. In a moment of semi-guitarless-holiday-boredom I was surfing my regular guitar websites on the hotel computer when up she popped for £1400!Phone calls home from the hotel cost me a fortune!I bought her in an instant, you can't pass up the opportunity to grab one of these. It was there waiting when I returned home.Condition mint except for alittle gold hardware tarnish. She has the Strattiest sound a Tele body can produce.Amazing guitar.Perfect frets. No sprout here!Perfectly balanced.A credit to Anderson.
I since spoke to Tom and he told me who made it there and just how few they did before they were forced to redesign the headstock.Mine was the second Hollow-T made and one of only 10 made!So yeah, they are THAT rare to see.
The T Classic earlier in this thread from 1989 is possibly the first made!

Very cool--I have a 7-27-90 version of this guitar. It looks almost identical (tobacco burst, same pickups, headstock, etc.) except mine is Ash on Ash. Original owner---very versatile guitar that I never get tired of playing.
I also have a Classic and a Cobra from the mid-90's and a brand new 3 pickup Atom with a Bigsby that may be the coolest of the bunch!
Thanks for you post--I never knew the history you described about this model!

Love your anderson, gosh that's sweet.
I've owned probably about 8 Tom Andersons, all of which I've sold. Impeccilbe quality, great playing, sounding, feeling and looking guitars. Don't know why I've never been able to connect with a keeper tho. Grosh's seem like they hit more of a chord (no pun intented) with me. I think its his bigger necks and more vintagey toneage and feel.

Thanks, man! It's funny. I felt the same as you. I almost sold that one, but something made me keep it. It has totally grown on me. It covers a lot of tonal ground. Those M pups are really nice. And I was digging huge necks for a while, but I'm finding the standard Andy carve to be really, really comfortable for playing just about everything. I'm thinking of ordering another one, this time with a pickguard so I can more easily swap pickups in it. I'm torn between that and another Suhr Standard. So I bumped this thread to see what's out there. ;)

Just sold my last Tom Anderson last week, More out of financial necessitiy than anything else, not cause I didnt love the guitar, however the neck carve is a bit thin for my liking and I've got all the tonal ground covered with strats and my humbucker guitars. I'd have to say that this guitar was sort of a jack of all trades master of none. that is the strats did the strat sound better and the PRS and Mcinturff did the humbucker and jazzier sounds better. Of course it can be argued that the TA was it's own thing which not a bad thing.

Not too many Pro Ams. I guess most people prefer exotic options and fancy tops. For me it is just plain Alder with a maple neck or maple / rosewood. So my Anderson will be a Pro Am.

I have a Hollow Cobra S, my second but not last Anderson. Yes, you buy one and you immediately start thinking about which guitars you can move to get another one. That addictive. Mine might be the best HB guitar I've ever owned, which is saying a lot. Tons of great musical tones, unparalleled comfort in how it hugs your body, and mine weighs under eight pounds, even with its solid Indian rosewood neck. The 24.75 scale makes it so easy to play (along with the stainless frets) that I haven't picked-up my Number One since the Andy arrived end of January.
Just get one!

Guitar has interesting history. It was purchased by producer, Ron Nevison, for the guitarist in the band Firehouse. He used it on all the rhythm tracks for their album, 3. Kinda cool story.
H3 in the bridge and 2 SA's. Has a myriad of switching possibilities with a toggle and push-pull pot. The Swamp Ash body/Madagascar fretboard gives a sweet, punchy tone. Modern Mary Kaye!

My newly acquired bulldog, heavenly tones, fit and finish. Trully a great guitar that has range and comfort.

The color is Amber Burst
Thanks, the vintage tremolo brings a unique layer to the table, I swear notes ring out in 3D, reality is the short scale along with the the extra give makes it play phenomenal, I must be in love.

Drop Top Classic.
Tubular quilt on lightweight alder.
Maui Kazowie!
+.05 oversize even taper neck, shoulders down slightly, maple on maple.
Heavy frets.
SC1, SC1, HC3
Pearl guard.
5 way, with neck adder switch.
First off let me say the pictures do not do the guitar justice at all. I'm no photographer. The quilt and finish are incredibly 3 dimensional. From every angle the quilt is constantly shifting, moving, rolling. The finish changes colors as you shift your view from blue to green to blue/green to yellow/green. You can almost catch this in the last photo where some of the tops of the tubes look blue but the valleys look green. Hard to explain, next to impossible to photograph, breathtaking to behold.
Of course as with all Andersons she plays like a dream and sounds killer! I was pleasantly surprised at how light she is. My other Andersons are Hollow, and this one doesn't feel much heavier at all.
This one definitely goes to eleven!

Wow that Bulldog is awesome looking.
Heres my Drop Top in trans black. I got it last December and its my favorite out of all my guitars next to my Suhr Modern.
My next one will be a Drop Top in some shade of blue.
