People who start a thread about such things are far, far worse.

We get it, you are better than everyone else. Maybe YOU should be the one moving past it.

It's just human nature... people watch other people who are less fortunate or more farked up than they are, and revel in their misery. It makes one feel better about themselves. Simple as that.

We do seem to have a morbid interest in failing. Maybe it goes deeper and taps into some instinct we have to learn from observation but have become desensitized to it because of our own ability to adapt and avoid those same pitfalls. Others are just thick. :spit

That for the most part we're removed from the natural dangers we would normally face in a day, we still have a need for the adrenalin rush and get it vicariously through watching others. Professional wrestling, to Peoples Court to Jerry Springer, to reality tv to Jersey Shore. A race to the lowest common denominator.

While it does go further than that we all choose which stop we get off at. For some it's documentaries about the science of real life for others it's Bum Fights. People get probably the same the thing from it but the content is something that appeals to the subjective taste of the individual.

With maybe a little of the old seeing part of ourselves reflected in the mirror to boot.

I like watching "hoarders." I'll admit it and I am not ashamed.

extremes of the human condition are sort of fascinating. I occasionally watch hoarders, although it was more interesting early on and is suffering from repetition at this point. I'm certainly not "revelling in the misfortune of others." I'd love to see some of the people on the show benefit from the help/treatment they recieve, but they rarely seem to. They are sad stories - more-so I think for the people around the hoarder than the hoarder themselves.

If its a choice between an ep of hoarders and a steven seagal movie, its hoarders all the way.

I agree that feeling the need to start threads like this is probably just as problematic as watching an occasional episode of the show in question.

Most of television is crap. I hate reality TV, but I watch hoarders occasionally and I think it's an interesting show. Sorry if it doesn't meet your lofty standards though.

I agree..Maybe shows like Hoarders and Intervention will open peoples eyes about issues that may be in their own family. It also may motivate someone to help others suffering from these types of issues.

Any type of show that opens the eyes of Americans to some of the real problems in today society is good by me. Its better than mindless humor found on most stations.

Yes, I'm sure you are all watching this garbage for educational purposes. And I'm sure we are all better off as a species because we get to see such things. Riiiiiiight.

If one of your family members lives in such a manner, do you really need a TV show to tell you something is wrong?

My wife was just watching something similar and put it succinctly:

I guess people need to watch this stuff to make them realize their lives aren't *that* bad.
