Here is a before and after pic of my beloved R7.
The checked finish pic is the BEFORE pic. I did the relic job about 2yrs back and never was happy with it. The guitar has lots of natural wear, so I sent it to RS to have the top refinned in 50s correct goldtop, lightly dulled to match the other wear on the guitar.
Enjoy. I know I am going to.

The refin looks fantastic. This might start a new trend, de-relic your vintage style guitars!

RS does a really nice 50's gold. A few years ago I bought a 1969 Les Paul that had the top refinished in natural. I sent it to RS and Roy did a beautiful refin in 50's gold and aged it to match the natural wear on the back and neck.

R7's are f*#king awesome. Goldtops all the way: mushrooms or guitars.

How much did the top refin cost? Do someone knows how much it will be for a complete refin (top, back and neck)?
Around $900 for a complete refinish.

I believe it has to do with the dust in the finish that gives it it's gold look....It used to be real gold (IIRC) but no it's mica (again, IIRC)...
