Hi,
Just wondering how important reverb is for electric guitar? Do you put it in ur pedalboard?
Another question, which one is more important, reverb or tremolo?
thanks

I always used to use amp reverb....
but then the last 3 amps I've had do not have reverb and I could not find an external reverb pedal/unit that I could stand...
so I got in the habit of not using reverb and sometimes I miss it when playing alone but never do I miss it "Live"
I do have tremelo on my 64 Deluxe but never use that much as this is not my main gigging amp...but I have ordered a Toneczar Powerglide tremelo pedal for my live pedalboard as I want to start to incorporate tremelo into the band...

I always had amps with built-in reverb. When I switched to a rack-mount system without it, I found my sound to be dry and life-less. My search for a decent reverb was short: an Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail reverb ($90 give or take) now makes its home on my board and is always on.
Tremolo on the other hand, is an effect I find to have its use in limited applications. Not enough use to justify giving it a spot on my board.

I use reverb, and sometimes a lot. I prefer digital reverb over real spring reverb, but that's just me. I get my reverbs from my rack (Eventide most of the time, sometimes my Lexicon).
I've used the EHX Holy Grail in the past but I found their products unreliable and thus I refuse to use any EHX pedals anymore.
I've heard good things about the Digitech Digiverb. Seems to be a great versatile reverb for the money.
I do not use tremolo as much as reverb, so that makes it less important, IMO. Reverbs never get boring but overused tremolo can get really annoying.

I think it really depends on the music you're playing. Sometimes there's just no room for it and it gets lost or mushed out.

I have a standalone unit (reVibe type) that I plug into the front end for effects; just with "60's" type lead solos to get that spaced-out thing going. Other than that, my amp has no reverb, and I don't miss it a bit. If your amp is flat-sounding on its own, reverb helps a lot. With my amp, the sound is very 3-dimensional (stupid way to put it, but that's what it sounds like), and reverb takes away from the attack of it.

I use the 3 knob in amp reverb all the time...it's my favourite effect. A three knobber is great because you can tailor the dwell to suit the volume so you don't get wash out at louder volumes.
I really like trem to, but it's used more judiciously/occasionally.

I always use my amp's reverb...
...in those that have onboard reverb.
I don't use it with my Alessandros, or my '54 Deluxe...

I love what Reverb does to a clean sound, a hint of reverb makes clean sound gorgeous. Also reverb really livens up things when you play single notes.
If you are hacking away in OD mode .. reverb eh becomes null and void.
Pending on what I am playing through some cabs have more "natural" reverb so I need it less.

+1
For me clean tones REQUIRE reverb and often some delay. Distortion sounds better live with delay only - no verb. In the studio anything goes.

I have always LOVED amp reverb, (owned a mint 1966 Super Reverb for 15 years), but with the acquisition of my Fender 57 Tweed Twin I must admit I don't miss it (reverb) half as much as I thought I would. GREAT 3D tone.

I use reverb more in smaller, combo amps.
In my current stable, I do not use verb with my VHT CL/50 head, but do use it with the Super 30...
I think that the smaller size (not to mention 1x12, vs 2 or 4 x 12/s) warrants a bit more liberal use of the effect to add a bit of space to the sound.

I never use it.
Delay is cool, but reverb gets too congested sounding (unless its being done through the board in the studio).

I use it 100% of the time on my Twin but it's set so low... like 1.5 on the knob. If I really need a wet sound I use chorus or delay.

Same here. Actually modded my Twin so the return mixer has a little less gain, so I get a tiny tiny bit of reverb (just enough to sweeten things up) at 2.5.
over the last few years I've substituted analog delay for reverb, the verb was getting messy to my ear where the delay seems more refined
I am a reverb lover, and prefer amp reverb. I like things nice and wet. If I didnt have reverb on my amp, not sure what I would do, I have heard Alesis makes a good reverb, heard some good things about the digiverb. Have heard good things about the Holy Grail but would never use something as poorly constructed as EH products live. Apart from that all the pedal reverbs I have heard sound awful compared to real springs (to me anyway). Without an amp reverb, I might go for the Fender 63 Tube reverb. Although I have not heard it, Fender makes the best reverb IMHO.

Always used it until my latest amp (which does not have it). The amp is so sweet I don't miss it at all. Never thought that would be possible.

I use reverb, delay and tremolo for different applications. I'm playing bluesy rock. One amp has reverb the other does not. I honestly don't miss it when it's not there. Reverb can get washed out in the mix and sometimes it cuts better without.
I like to use a little slapback echo form time to time and I'll use my supra trem on songs that call for it.

i started out playing fenders, and got very used to always having reverb; they sounded very dry and clinical to me without it.
then i got a K&M custom (no reverb), and realized that a clean tone without reverb CAN sound beautiful. i think it's a difference in the dumble-style cleans that have a lot more mids than fenders. the reverb sort of fills up that void on fenders, but is unnecessary with the custom.
THEN, i got a TR custom reverb sig, and realized how good reverb can sound sound with a dumble-style amp. joe/bill have commented that the dumbly circuits don't always react well to reverb, but they really nailed it with the sig.
so that said, i love reverb when it's available and will always want it for fendery cleans. but with the right amp i don't find myself missing it. and i've never really been impressed with pedal reverb units, so i'd rather just go without it if that is my only option.

If the amp has reverb built in, I'll use a touch of it. If the amp doesn't have it, I won't add it. All in all, I have come to prefer playing without reverb.

every amp i owned had reverb , super reverb , twin reverb , marshall jcm 800 roland jc 120 .
since i got a 59 tweed super i no longer need reverb . there is just something about these tweed amps they sound so sweet without it.

I use my long 2 spring Accutronics with my Fargen Epic 30 DC (came with it). I set it lightly so it adds just a slight dimension to the sound.
I have reverb on my H&K Replex. That I'll use every once in a while, but it's no vintage Fender reverb circuit.
I typically use a 600 ms. "ambient" delay that is mixed low.....this provides all of the room simulation that I need....
For me, a reverb effect swamps things out too much....
Regards!
I could not live without reverb, and curently I use a Vanamps Reverbamate. It kicks major ass...

I will sometimes use a little reverb at home when playing clean. I have no use whatsoever for reverb when playing live. All it does is muddy up your sound. I will use reverb, sparingly, in a studio context, but if so, it'll be added during the mixdown, with the guitar going to tape completely dry.

A tiny touch of reverb is good but some people overdo it. One guy I used to jam with used so much reverb that, when the band was bashing away and he took a solo, I couldn't even make out what the heck he was playing. It was just a big reverberating moosh of sound. He was actually a very good player but he was wiping out his sound with reverb. I prefer delay.

I tend to favor digital reverbs....mostly from an Eventide H3000 DSE. The long reverbs make for beautiful [special effect] ambient sounds.
I bought an EBS DynaVerb just to have something small that I could kick in if I ever needed some and didn't want to lug the 'tide around. Sounds nice.....if not a little "hard" sounding (which translates to "clear" sounding if there's much going on).
No crazy settings on this box though.....options of hall, plate, and rooms and 3 variations of each (2 halls).

I always use the built-in amp reverb. (twin reverb...)
I don't seem to use the tremolo quite a lot, but sometimes it's really cool.

My stiletto doesnt have any reverb, therefore I have to get a reverb pedal. How is the digiverb compared to the Holy Grail? I actually want to get the holier grail, but it takes so much space in my pedal board...
Any recommendation for analog reverb?

I use reverb in the non traditional sense. I love the way the Holy Grail uses a mix control, not a simple level added to the dry signal. I like cranking the reverb on the Hall setting, where I almost have all reverb and little dry signal. It's cool for weird Radiohead, Flamming Lips, Wilco tones. As a traditional reverb the HG is passable, not perfect. But for my needs and space concerns I love it.

I don't use it often, and not much of it when I do, but my favorite amps don't have it at all. Anybody tried one of these? Vintone Inboard (http://www.vintone.com/inboard.html)
Opinions? Impressions?

I like my digiverb. it gets very very wet. My first try was a little lanilei but the same one that was passed around on Ebay alot I think, because I couldn't hear the reverb but on the maximum setting, other than that it was completely dry. I think it had a crapped out output driver.
The digiverb is fake, but pretty much all digitals are. I'm hunting an old Garnet tank or some one who has an old fender and dosen't know what they have. Matamp and everyone else is probably out of my non professional price range at the moment.
I like the digiverb for the flexibility and reliability and obviously the cheap price. I don't like the spring on it, I usually use the hall and plate. It adds just a little more prescence, fullness and body to my Orange.

It's funny, I like a small wash of reverb just to give the tone depth, particularily in single speaker amps like the Deluxe Reverb, but with really good two speakers amps (like an AC30 or a JTM45) there's already a 3 dimensional feel to the music without reverb. It wouldn't translate on stage or even recording but just to play it's very cool. I use tremelo a lot less, although I love the brown/blonde Fender tremelo...

The best reverb I have found to use with my Acoustic/Electric Godin Nylon string is the EH Holy Grail ..
It's very thick & pretty... perfect for my acoustic tone or hollowbody tones,
but too thick with my solid electrics ...

Can't stand NOT having Reverb! As a matter-of-fact, I sold my little Champion 600 just because of that. I did find that a good analog delay set on quick repeats will give a 'reverb' effect.

I use it all the time. Especially like how a good external reverb (Fender RI outboard unit or VanAmps SoleMate for me) works with a warm delay to add in some gain. That net effect has become a big part of my sound, rather different from the reverb-only approach (which sounds just fine too.)

I use Fender tube amp reverb, varying the settings depending on what's being played from completely dry to moderate. Not into the surf drenched stuff, not because I don't like it, it's just not part of any current set list.

I prefer light reverb when I use it; rarely above "3" unless a little Surf is in order. It can really wash away the tone. No reverb is great live, tone at is fattest and purest.

I like digital reverb, digital delay, and lots of it. Feed it some analog modulation, distortion and use the whammy bar with no fear. 80s synth-like ambience out the wazoo! :D

Currently, I have been using a Keeley moded AD-9 in the FX loop of my Briton II. It seems to do the job live in place of any built in verb. I am going to stick with it for a while.

Hi I use a Echoplex with short delay (room sound) and its always on, you bareley can hear it. When I play lead I boost my signal through a Super Chili Picoso and that is driving the input from my Echoplex so you can hear the Echo. I used this trick way back in the 80thies, it worked then and it works now.

I love my Reverb in my amp. Spring Reverb too. Usually have it on 4-5. It adds a lot of air to your tone that I love. The tremolo is just like a vibrato effect.
i use amp's reverb. Not so much..but I like it. I also like channel one on fender amp very much. BF champ, 57' champ.

My main amp does not have reverb either, so I use a Little Lanilei pedal. It's real spring reverb and gives a nice subtle warm reverb which is exactly what I want.

I use reverb.
I've always found the spring reverb of my various Fender combos to be great sounding one trick ponys. Back in the 80's I used an Alesis Quadraverb.
Now, running two amps and sometimes wanting to go totally dry for the in-your-face-funky stuff with no reverb at all, made me look for a pedal. I'm currently using the T-Rex RoomMate which is a pretty good sounding box, but I gotta admit the TC Nova Reverb looks very tempting.

I've got a Trex Room-Mate. It's got a great feel to it. I recently tried setting a delay pedal for short delay to mimic a reverb, but it is just not the same to me. I wanted to cut back on the number of pedals I have, but I can't seem to let go of this dedicated reverb pedal.
