I'm just starting a one-off Fender Super 6G4-A build project. I assume I'm okay using a 1N4007 in place of the selenium diode, yes?

Should be. Thats what I have always done and never had any problems. I always check the voltages before and after just to make sure all is good.

No worries,it's just for the bias supply.A 1n4007 will handle it easily.

That's what I figured. Thanks gentlemen.

Leon...if your amp has a dandruff problem, I'd definitely stick with the selenium diode!

Jerry - do you have any idea how many unemployed comedians are out there, suffering?

Who cares about the comedians suffering, how about the audience that has to listen to jokes like that...

Leon, there are 417 unemployed comedians out there last time I checked.

It's all in the delivery. And yes...you may borrow it.

Where would you find a Selenium diode today?I've replaced them with IN4007's in my 50's Tweeds for giggles and safety.

I've got a working one I could pull from a 1960 5F6-A I'd be willing to sell :)
I disconnected it and used one lug as a terminal point to mount one leg of a 1N4007.

I don't think anyone is manufacturing them nowadays (unlike germanium devices), so NOS or scavange from old equipment. However, selenium devices have a few intrinsic types of poor performance when compared to Si diodes, and given there is no audible disadvantage in changing to Si diodes, then it would be a retrograde step.
