Never used a vintage VP, but my Ernie Ball VPjr. is well built and sounds amazing after Thru-Tone modded it.

My EB VPJr started getting scratchy-pot syndrome within a few months of owning it and very limited use. Seems to be an issue with most volume pedals though.

The Boss FV500 series is far more rugged and functions flawlessly. Plus it's equipped with expression and min volume control, great unit for the price.
