I got to thinking about this responding to the "best cereal" thread.

My two sons 14 & 18 and myslf do,but their mother never was a cereal flavored milk drinker.

One,it seems like a colossal waste of milk and two, cereal milk is goooooood.

I know,trivial question.I just thought i'd ask.

Finish everything you put in the bowl.

There are two types of people: People who love milk and people who don't. I LOVE MILK and I take it any way: 2% is the preferred. How someone could eat a bowl of cereal and just dump the cereal milk is absurd to me. But.............maybe my love of milk is absurd to some so there you go. Different strokes.

For example, donuts without milk is craziness. Cake without milk is craziness..........you get the picture.

No, I do not drink the milk from my cereal bowl. But...my girl dog patiently waits (in her designated spot) for me to finish, then she is invited to lap up the milk from the bowl.

It is her single biggest treat.

So, in that sense, nothing goes to waste.

(Then again, I don't have cereal all that often...maybe 2 or 3 times a month.)

My dog loves it -- he sits there with his head on my leg while I eat my cereal and then goes crazy when I'm done. So I always give it to him.

How about this:

Don't drink cow milk at all.

Cow milk is for unweened baby cows....not for humans. Add to it all of the anti-biotics & steroids that are fed to / injected into the cows to keep them healthy & lactating, and your bowl is full of....well....."something that nature never intended you to consume".

Think about it.

Count me in on the opposite side of this...I <3 milk! Plain, 2%, whole, strawberry, chocolate, cereal, white russians, etc

I use too (as a kid).

I really don't enjoy drinking milk now. I have cereal every morning, and usually take one or two drinks from the bowl and pour the rest out.

A question for those who do not drink the leftover milk......why not put less milk in, so you you have the right amount that would be gone when the cereal is gone?

Yeah, drink it. It's the best part of having cereal...

Nature never intended me to consume Tequilla and Enchilladas either, but I'm probably going to be ok.

that's my strategy, but I'm thinking about taking the cows out of the equation altogether. Not sure what to use though - Soy milk? Almond Milk? Bourbon?

I don't eat kiddy cereal, so I generally would finish the milk.

But, I switched to almond milk. I used to guzzle 2 litres of cow milk from the carton and that is a tonne of calories. Almond milk comes in sweetened or unsweetened. The original version has a light almond flavor with no grit and has the consistency of skim milk. It also comes in vanilla and chocolate. It tastes good and goes well with cereal. http://www.almondbreeze.com/

Soy milk is just too high in protein and in large amounts, leads to flatulence. But the flavoured stuff does taste really good.

I love drinking the milk on most occasions, but there are definitely some cereals that make it taste better than others. Cinnamon Toast Crunch-flavored milk is particularly awesome.

This is correct. Indications are that Casein could be a problem, possibly a even a low level carcinogen. That is the protein in milk. I've switched over to Soy Milk (Silk Light Regular) for my coffee. This is sorta a bummer for me as those Fage Nonfat Plain Yorgurts have become a dietary staple, but I'm weaning off all dairy just like I have already done with Red Meat.

Mark really is spot on though, unfortunately. The Dairy Industry feels differently, as do the various industry groups that support eggs/poultry and beef.

Back to the original question: no problem with downing any residual Silk after the cereal is gone!

If I have leftover milk, I just add more cereal.
But sometimes I add too much cereal, so I have to add more milk.
And then I'm left with too much milk again...
It's a vicious cycle! But I don't mind because I love cereal!

First thing I thought of - The human digestive system has not gotten used to diary product yet.

I can't drink cereal milk. Can't drink milk period. My body stopped digesting it when I was around 15. I use soy milk now.

Peope weren't meant to drink cow's milk, eh? They also weren't meant to drink the juice from a bean (soy) that's too gross to eat on it's own, either. If you want to get right down to brass tacks, water is the only beverage we were meant to drink. I submit that milk from a cow is healthier for the human body than all the beer and sodas we drink.
