I ask this question about once a year on different forums in the hope somebody will be able to help me.
I remember reading a long time ago about SRV playing a rendition of Gerry Rafferty's "Baker street" with a house band led by Paul Shaffer (Late night with David Letterman).
Anyone know where I can find a recording of this?

Well that's a start!
Are you sure it's SRV in there. Sounds like it might be him...
Can't we have the whole song anywhere?
Thanks by the way!

Yeah, its SRV. I remember watching that episode in the 80s and if you poke around the entire show is available on Youtube. Paul introduces the band with all the special guest players like David Sanborn, Tower of Power horns and SRV. The song was interstitial music so that might be all that there is of it unless you find a raw feed. IIRC that appearance caused someone to remark that SRV was not a particularly sophisticated player- he just played blues licks over the top of everything and made it work through force!

Can't recall who the subject was, but it struck me as a kind of backhand compliment at the time. A passive/aggressive catty type of remark whoever he was wouldn't have had the guts to say if Stevie hadn't already been dead & gone
Of course, I may have interpreted the guy's tone completely wrong. There were no sarcasm smileys back then
