View Full Version : Car accidents suck!
Had one yesterday. Car in front of me stopped to turn left (across double yellow) and caught me off guard. I realized I couldn't stop in time and swerved to avoid her, hit her back right tail and then I think I hit a stone pedestal on the side of the road (about 35 mph). My head hit the corner of the visor, which sits really low in a Subaru Legacy, and I ended up with a 3" long laceration all the way to the bone requiring 42 stitches. I also have an abrasion above it. Spend 5hours in the ER. The driver of the other vehicle was fine, thank God.
Car is totalled, but I still have my good looks. Maybe I look a little meaner now. Only 4 payments left on the car. Bummed.

Yikes. Definitely your fault too.
But you have the right outlook, that you and her are OK. Cars can be replaced, people can't.

Glad you are OK! Saw the scar pic on Facebook. Wow. A real character adder.... ;)
I'm almost afraid to retrieve my possessions from the vehicle. It was a bloody mess!
I've been in several accidents--in fact, a few years ago I was rear-ended on Rt. 78 by another car that was rear-ended, and my car was sent spinning into the oncoming traffic. Remarkably, I was unscathed. I thought it was over. It was for that car....
This was my first head injury. Surprised, aren't you? :)

We hit a car when we were going 65 - it pulled in front of us on a rural highway from a dead stop. We were in a Subaru Outback. Those commercials with the guy saving the gear shift knob are not kidding - that car likely saved our lives.
Sorry about your accident - it does suck. I had quite a few before I learned about "safe distances." I'm not saying it couldn't happen to anyone, though.

Speedy recovery! Glad you're relatively okay. Car accidents definitely suck, but motorcycle accidents suck worse.

It boggles my mind how many people cruise down the interstate doing 80, 4-feet behind the car in front of them. Don't they teach people anything before they get a drivers license anymore? Almost no one seems to understand the forumula between reaction time, braking distance and speed, you would think. A lot of people drive like the goal is to get as close to the car in front of you as possible.
OP - I hope you have a speedy recovery. 42 stitches is a good number. You'll be able to scare the hell out of trick-or-treaters on Halloween though.
