I'm struggling to figure out which one to get. I don't even know whether to get the Special or HRM. I play in a cover band doing a lot of classic rock (heaviest would be ACDC but it doesn't have to be that accurate tone wise) so I'd need to be able to do more than the jazz blues every clip seems to be. I'm leaning towards the Standard OTS but have also looked at the HRM BM.

The smooth and creamy OD that sustains is the most important thing. I have a DRRI and love the cleans on it, so anything similar to that would be great.
I like the idea of the internal OD EQ trimpots on the HRM BM but the cleans don't seem to be as good as the Special. I usually play a Strat with a humbucker in the bridge.

I have an '08 OTS that I've modded to 'Ojai' specs (or as close as possible).

I don't play jazz blues. I play (in different bands), hard rock, punk, dance, and funk.

I play a Les Paul & have some delay in the loop (C-Lator). No other pedals.

I think any of the OTS models will be fine.

Do you know if the Bluesmasters give the same overdrive or is it more Marshall like? And is it worth have the internal trim pots?

Also what is Ojai?

"Ojai" is the city Robben Ford lives in...It's also the designation given to the circuitry of his current amp (by enthusiasts).

The Bluesmaster, if I remember correctly, has a very different bass texture/response. I don't know that I'd call it Marshall-like.

I don't need the internal trimmers...but if the amp had them, I might use them. They seem handy.

Remember, these amps have OD and boost. Set the amp up right, with the right gain structure dialed in & the right guitar...I've never needed OD pedals with the amp.

I have a Quinn SDO and I use it for cover bands. The thign is...I gave up trying to get my amp to give me the classic rock sounds that I need for cover stuff. It has that inherant dumble tone which can rock...but its not the same kind of rock that you'd hear on an old Journey or Foreigner tune. But the wonderful thing about these dumble amps is they take pedals like nobodies business. So I can get those great plexi tones from a pedal.

I've always wondered specifically what mods the "Ojai" consists of, mainly because I live in Ojai. And excuse my ignorance I'm more of a Hiwatt guy, but do any of the Dumble circuit amps have the trimmers placed externally?

183!

Because I want the best dumble tone possible...I may be looking at selling my SDO and getting a 183... I had Shad build my SDO to have a bit more "rock" in its overdrive characteristic. It sounds great but I think i like the tones I'm hearing on the 183's a bit better. Like I posted...I can get classic rock tone with the pedal.

Oh High dude from Ojai,

The Ojai ( Bludotone )or Ceriatone FM is a copy of Robben Fords Dumble #102.
All the Ceriatone OTS's now come with OD trimmer located on the back panel which is very convenient but the HRM model TMB pots are still located internally on Ceriatones. I do not know of any D-styles that offer HRM TMB externally. On mine I set it and forget it.

Quinnamp has had the "monkey knobs" on the outside for awhile now. My SDO is an HRM and has concentric pots (monkey knobs) on the front of my amp.

I'd email Nik Azam who runs Ceriatone and ask him as many direct questions as possible. He is a cool guy and will give you straight answers.
in general you can google or wikipedia Dumble and get a good idea and then compare to the descriptions on the Ceriatone site. That should get you started. Also try MarinBlues's page on youtube. He responds frequently and has videos comparing different models. Overall the amps share very similar DNA but all have slight adjustments.

Nik told me straight up that the Bluesmasters have the most "Fender" clean and that the HRMs in general have the eq controls for the gain chanel separate from the clean eq controls.;)
