Small excerpt from wood shredder tune... It's an experiment in deminised, cromatic and just straight up atonal. Not gonna be everyones thing... but I am just diggin' this atm.

Gotta love being able to smack someone in the face with your guitar and not have them press charges!

Wood shredder type thingie (http://www.itc2.org/Music/Heavy.mp3)

You have certainly developed a modest degree of facility on the instrument. It's the end to which this ability is applied that doesn't resonate with me. That's simply an issue of taste and certainly not an absolute.

Ummmm... ok. I honestly thought you were just kidding around. Is there a reason you had such "lofty expectations" of me? Or for that matter... is there a reason you thought that your less than favorable opinion of what I do for fun has any baring on whether or not I will still find it fun?

No real offense intended here Matte... but like every other post I have read from you thus far... you have no constructive critisism... just critisism. So, why bother?

I wouldn't mind hearing:

This is soooo not my thing... but I appreciate the effort you put out.

But the response you gave was just meant to be offensive. Though, I must say that I feel honored that someone who is so highly sought after in the music industry could find the time to troll one of my posts. How do you fit it all in your busy schedule?

What about the original post prompted you to set your expectations so very high and, in the same breath, where did you get the idea that the thread starter was soliciting feedback? Reading the original post I got the idea that the clip was posted because he dug it and wanted to share it. If you don't dig it - okay. Given the implied intent of the original post I see nothing constructive in yours.

After careful consideration of your last post and hearing some of the brilliant clips out on your site, Matte... I have come to see the errors of my ways.

So, I scrapped the solo track I had on this song, broke out the auto-pan and "sprayed some Lestersecticide over it". BREW-HA!

Heavy ala Matte! (http://www.itc2.org/Music/HeavyMatteStyle.mp3)

You were made fun of a lot in highschool, weren't you?

Constructive? Incorporate lines with wider intervals. Break out of diatonica once and a while. Avoid playing more than three notes in one direction.

Here's what I was working with when I clicked onto your link. What I heard was pretty diatonic. Not good or bad, simply misrepresented.

Despite whats being said, I personally still like the playing man...from what 'I' gather, all you were suggesting is that you probably just closed your eye's and went nut's and you liked the results. There's something to be said for that kind of expression, regardless of the outcome.

Peace,

Edit: bear in mind, I'm a ham 'n egger compared to most of these guys, so take my comment with a grain. ;)

but:
just for clarity's sake:
there's nothing atonal, in that piece;
on first listen, i hear a buncha pentatonic minor stuff, some dorian mode, one big obvious slew of arpeggiated diminished goo mixed in with a wad of chromatic passing tones;
this kind of stew does not constitute atonality, as the tonality of the piece was clearly diatonically based.

That is what I thought when I heard it, as well. I got a kick out of the piece though, kind of like watching a person run a sub 10 second, 100 meter sprint.

Yep yep... I just figured after posting the original material that I spend most of my time on (which very un-guitar oriented) that this would be taken in the light that it was meant in... Yankin' it on a Friday night for giggles. :(

I really didn't know that anyone held the term "atonal" in such staunch regards. Sooo... without further dicussion, please let me extend my sincerest appologies for portraying myself as atonal when apparently I was nothing more than arpeggiated diminished goo mixed in with a wad of chromatic passing tones or diatonic or whatever it is that I was when I was when I did what I did to yooooouuuuuoooouuu oooooo. :D

I appreciate all the feedback as always... and Matte... you rock! Nothing I say or do will make that any different. I, even though I know the reverse isn't true, enjoy listening to the stuff you post!

Well played, t0neg. You've got some nice chops there.

I'd love to hear you play in a more interesting, less diatonic style.

Who do you listen to for inspiration, these days?

Great clip! Although not normally what I listen to, I really dug the shred-fest.

I guess I didn't take your original description of the clip so literally. To me, it was more "I threw everything against the wall and this is what stuck." As a result, I was listening more for what was there rather than what wasn't.
