I am a Tele player, and don't really need more than 20 watts. I would like to have an ef86, just because I have heard some great tones from Teles and ef86s. I was thinking that the choice is between an AC20 Deluxe and an AC20 Dual. I'm looking for classic AC30 tones. Seeking any and all thoughts/opinions to help me out.

That's an easy one. Go with Dual 20.

Why? because normal channel in the dual 20 is identical to Ac20 Deluxe. Why people get AC20 Deluxe over Dual 20 is beyond me...perhaps it's $100 or two cheaper. Think about it this way, you got to restaurant and order a burger. waitress asks if you want fries for 25 cents more.
Do you want just a burger or buger plus fries? Answer? Get both if you're not sure.
Don't use the top boost channel if you don't like. Always good to have an option.

I don't know about the Dual 20. The AC 20 Deluxe is great at what it does, but not versatile enough for me. Sounds like if I had a Dual 20 I may not have sold it.

Hey Sky,
Yeah, that's my observation, and on paper it makes sense. But is there a tone difference? The only reason I ask this question is because there's more going on inside the Dual 20:

For what it's worth, I've played both side by side. I went into it thinking the Dual 20 made more sense because it effectively has an AC20 Deluxe in it. But after playing them one right after the other, I changed my mind. Yes, the Dual 20 has the features of the AC20 Deluxe embedded in it, but it's a different amp, and as a result those features don't sound exactly the same. The differences might be minute, but to my ear, the AC20 just sounded better than the Dual 20. I'm thinking it's to do with purity of the signal path, but who knows. I mentioned this to Joe and he agreed. The Dual 20 is a great amp, no question, and it's more versatile, but if what you want is the classic AC sound, I think the AC20 Deluxe does it better. Still, honestly you can't go wrong. Morgan amps are all in a league of their own.

I'm still honeymooning with my Dual 20, but I'll put in a plug for it by saying that the top boost channel is so delicious I've barely even tapped into the normal/EF86 side.

Actually, isn't the Dual 20/40 more reminiscent of the old '62/63 Vox circuit with multiple channels and factory added top boost?

So you can pretty much hand select your components you want him to use? I dont see an option for upgrades anywhere like that on his website... Im lost???

My understanding with the caps is that Joe has switched from using SoZo to Jupiter, so you wouldn't need to specify a preference for the latter. As a rule, I don't think you can pick and choose components. There would be no need to do so anyway; everything in his amps is top-notch.
