A coworker is looking to get a Wolfgang as a Christmas present for her boyfriend and has asked me to help.
I see Wolfgang Specials going for a good price used. Then I noticed that some are USA Made & some are not.
Can somebody school me on Wolfgangs & Wolfgang Specials?
Her boyfriend mentioned that he liked the Special.

It's mainly the cosmetics that is different. The specials have a flat top where the standards have arched tops. The specials also come with flametops as well. The necks on the standard are birdseye where they are plain maple on the specials. Pickups are the same to my knowledge, trem is the same. Tuner buttons are pearl on the standards as well. If you don't care about fancy the special is the way to go.

Peavey Wolfgang standard = Birdseye neck, Archtop body, Volume and Tone control, made in USA.
Peavey Wolfgang Special = Rock Maple neck, Flat top body, Volume control only, made in USA.
Peavey Wolfgang EXP = Rock maple neck, Flat top body with quilt maple veneer top, volume control, made in Korea.
All quilt maple specials are Korean guitars. Solid colors and flame maple tops are USA guitars. Electronics are the same across the board except for the lack of a tone knob on the specials.

OK, thanks for all the help.
The USA Specials with Floyd & D-Tuna can be had used for under $600. Seems like a really good price for a USA Made, Floyd equipped guitar.
