I've just bought a Wagner SR pickups set and I find that they lack bass ! Am I the only one or is it just the design ? :( Could you help me please ? Thanks.

I haven't noticed that with my set. Play with the heights of the pickups. There are a lot of subtle differences just by doing that.

The ones I have lack nothing. Best equipment upgrade I ever made. Did you get the RS Guitarworks pot set too? That helps.

Perhaps a phone call to Wags for help, before the public announcment was in order?

I tend to tilt my pick ups one way or the other to get more high or lows .. whichever way I personally prefer it to sound.

No way I would describe the SR set as lacking bass. What did you have in the guitar before ?

You have to really play with the pickup heights on those pickups. They're very sensitive to that, so before you get too ticked off, you might want to try a whole bunch of adjustments to them and keep trying them out.

It took me a two or three hours of tweaking to get all three "just where I wanted them"... and I'm known to be a picky bastid. May as well just admit that up front, and be done with it.

Good luck. I'd advise calling Wagner as well. He's really good about supplying advice.

I had John Suhr V60 before. it seems that the overall output of the SR set is a bit lower too. I'm from Europe so I can't call Mr Wagner on the phone. :(

It's done ! Here is his reply :

"Chek the magnets. Sometime they get de-magnetized by the post office. "

But I didn't buy from the internet, I bought it from a friend. Perhaps this set is too bright for me after all.

You might want to resolder the connections. You might have a weak connection or two.

Yeah, I think you should work these kind of issues out with the maker before posting something like this on a Forum. That's quite a proclaimation to make.

I'd measure them to make sure they are in spec, then work on adjusting the heights as noted above.

They do not lack bass in my two guitars with them.

Hi,

I've measured the 3 pickups and I found :

- neck : 6k 34
- middle : 7k 57
- bridge : 7k 44

What are the correct specs please ?

Mr Wagner insists that I have to check the magnets but I don't know how to do !

For now, I've adjusted the pickups closer to the strings and everything seems OK : more bass and more volume.

Thanks for your help.

to test magnets . grab an item that has iron .. and touch bobbins .. see if they stick.

also to test bobbins grab metal item, activate pick up and tap each bobbin - see if the make sound

metal item can be screwdriver
