A-Basin opened yesterday with the White Ribbon of Death.
Not great, but skiing none the less.....
Bring it (yells at clouds)

Wolf Creek opened last weekend after a storm dumped ~3.5 feet. Loveland is open too. I'll stay away from the "white ribbon of death" and start skiing in mid December or so.

Wolf is a little too far for me. They did beat out the Basin for first opened though, and with a good dumping!
Loveland is a bit sketchy now too, unless you like rocks....
Comes with the territory of early season skiing.
I'll take it.

Just moved back to Colorado, got the Copper/WP season pass. Can't wait to get up there. Did A-Basin ever actually melt off this year? There was about 90 inches still up there in June.

Nice sentiment, but that was a brutal f**king winter on every level. I can't tell you how many people I know who are almost post-traumatic dealing with the onslaught of all those storms lasting into June, and then dealing with less than three full months of summer this year. Snow management alone was a full time job. Insane. And then going into a shortened summer season, many people are really dealing with temporary Seasonal Affective Disorder.
The October snow was a shock wave that made many people just cringe and start to hunker into survival again. Not good. Thank God we got some Indian summer so we can get our wood in, prepare for winter, and try to maintain some sanity.
News to those who aren't ski-addicted: regular seasons are necessary for emotional balance. Sorry to be a bummer, but trust me from talking with many people here in Tahoe: NONE of us except the most addicted powder hounds want another winter like last year.

Well, I live in a harsh 4 season area, and although I can sympathize with
your SAD.
I hate the heat and summer is my least favorite season.
My wife and I get SAD during summer, but we make the best of it and try to do activities for the conditions. We chose to live where there are harsh winters and less summer.
Not to be a bummer, but you can always move, or be involved in winter sports.
So, that being said.
Come on winter....BRING IT!

I agree 100% with all sentiments expressed here (with the exception of perhaps getting SAD during the summer). We have fortunately reached a place where...after moving over and over and over and over (and over, again...more than 20 times, I'm sure) for our jobs, we can live anywhere we choose. And we chose someplace with long, cold (and snowy) winters and short and relatively mild summers. And, just to be sure and include them, magnificent autumns and classic spring.
Why? Because I love the winter and snow. Can't live without it. Oh, and we have sled dogs who also could not live without the snow and cold (literally)....;)
My birthday is next week. And, on that day, I see...for the first time this year...the word "snow" in the forecast. We'll see.....:aok

Yeah...I love the snow too. If it dumps too much I cross country ski to work. If it dumps even more I work from home and ski down the street in front of my house during lunch break.

If you're going to split board, you might as well ski....IMHO
It's all good though.

I like winter well enough, but prefer it to wait until after dec 21 if at all possible. the other people around here get antsy enough as it is, and I don't like having to deal with their psychoses. Ostinato snowstorms make for even crankier than usual new englanders. Last year was pretty bad, people were going off the deep end without provocation.
I like to ski, but it is far too expensive for me.

It was my first winter here and my first winter living in snow. I LOVED it!!! But the locals who come in to my store were definitely upset by how long winter was and how short summer was. But from my point of view, if that is how bad it gets, I'm not sure what all the fuss is about.

We have a saying out here....
"There's no bad weather, only bad equipment"
Our Pioneers did it with crappy equipment, they'd be turning in their graves.

Two days after a storm, there was some hidden pow in Granite Chief at Squaw Valley today.
...and damn the ropes; a frozen waterfall had to be aired.
