Has anyone ever done a head-to-head comparing a Gibson ES-175 to a Heritage H-575?

Just curious ....

I'd put a new Heritage 535 about on par with a new 175. That said, I don't like the new 175's. A good early 70's or earlier 175 kills a 535. Early 70's 175's are one of the best bang for the buck on the vintage market-outstanding guitars.

Thanks Brien, but you do mean H-575 not H-535, right? The 535 is the Heritage 335.

A few years ago I went to Elderly Instruments with the intention of buying myself an archtop electric. My budget was under $2000. There was an Ibanez George Benson there that day that played very well and sounded very good. And the only other archtop in the store that I liked as much as the George Benson was a Heritage H575 which I ended up buying. All things considered, I think a Heritage H575 is definitely one of the nicest archtops in its price range. I could also say the same thing about a Sweet 16 or Eagle.

A couple years later I bought a 1956 Gibson ES-175D. I think the Heritage H575 is at least as well made as the ES-175. But I like the way the ES-175 feels in my hands and the way it sounds more than the H575. Maybe it is because my ES-175 is over fifty years old and has those 1950s P-90s in it. And the neck is larger on my ES-175 than on the H575. But once I got the ES-175 I did not play the Heritage H575 much at all. Though I can honestly say that I liked the Hertage H575 a lot, but just not as much as the ES-175.

One guitar that I reckon I like as much as a Heritage H575 that is around the same price as a used H575 is a 1970s Guild X-175. Though the X-175 has a 17" wide body and is deeper than an H575.

Try them all and buy the one that speaks to you.

Yep - people pan all '70's made Gibsons without playing/owning one - definitely not the case
