I'd laugh at them and tell them to GTFO

I'd be torn between a Tele and an LP.

There's a difference between

'Have to go buy new right now'
and
'Of what you have'.

My answers would be very different.

Example:

'you have nothing, go get a rig from the local GC to do everything from Rock, blues, Funk, Country, top 40, jazz, etc. right now'
Answer;
Tele and an AC30 with a pedal or two.

'You have nothing, and need a rig for your current band and/or all your current gigs, right now from the local GC'
Answer:

PRS Custom 22/24 and an AC30 with a pedal or two.

'you have to sell everything and keep one guitar and one amp of what you own right now'
Answer:
Thorn 140 and Greer Thunderbolt with a pedal or two.

'You have nothing and can get any one guitar and amp you want to cover all your needs right now'
Answer:
Custom Thorn and a 50 watt plexi or VINTAGE AC30 with a pedal or two.

Note: I have these and several other guitars and amps but these two cover a ton of ground with a couple of OD (SHOD, LGW) pedals and and echo (DD-2).
