This is an old youtube vid that some of you have seen from Bobby D. at MAE playing a '64 Strat. Are there Strat pickups available that can get this tone? Big, percussive, and greasy with piano bass. I like everything about it. Are there any pickups on the market that will do this?...or do you have to have the '64 Strat?

I say Lollar Blondes or Klein 62's.
It's the whole package, not just the pickups. There's magic in that particular run of Strats.

And borderline plinkiness from the upper strings.
I think one tends to buy great, boinky bass notes by paying for it with a thin and 'airy' top end.
OTOH, that IS Strattiness so YMMV, but pick the pups carefully.

i'd think the amp had a little something to do with that tone.

I think it's straight-in to a D/13 CJ11....I've played one a while back at True Tone and it didn't sound like that with a new Strat.
Also, I like that "plinkyness" on this '64....kinda has a Jazzmaster quality. I listened to some sound sample vids of the pups already mentioned and none sounded like the orig. clip....I'm thinking maybe the Don Mare/Vaughn's.... but those may also be a little tame for what I'm looking for.

Tone=Terrific, kudos for having the balls to point out the plinkiness on the upper strings lol. No doubt a killer ax, but you can find a better sounding one for 1/5 the price. By the way a nice demo and playing by Bobby D.
And borderline plinkiness from the upper strings.
In this case that is entirely a function of setup. What you can clearly hear is a very straight neck (no relief), light strings and low action.
raise the action and get better tone, I use Van Zandts for killer pre cbs Tone.

I get that tone out of my Classic Player 50's strat with 57/62 pickups.
It is a very specific tone I haven't gotten from any other Strat.
Pickups are a tad bright so I roll back the tones to about 7. Bright, clean, clear and full bass even at 7.
