From a O.K. amp to a Kick ass amp

I bought a Picovalve amp when they first came out and spent quite a bit of time swapping every tube type that I had.I finally settled on a couple of old RCA 12AX7's and an old 6V6GT. It had a smooth overdrive ,very little in the clean dept. It was too dark sounding and it wound up gathering dust.I was hanging out on TGP and saw a thread from John of River City Amps where he stated that he had a simple mod kit that would open up the sound of the amp and make it less dark .I figured what the hell give it a shot. I called him and he pretty much covered everything I found lacking in the amp. A week later I got the kit.It takes me about an hour to install it. I also tried the tubes he recommended and plugged it into a 10" Ragin Cajun.The differance was day for night. It has so much more prescence and balls.Its even usable in the 2 Watt setting which was pretty much useless until now.If you have a Picovalve and you are not that thrilled with it give John a call. You won't regret it.:bow

So far I have had nothing but good compliments on the mod kit, as well as those that have picovalves modded directly by me. It has been very well received. I even had some nice compliments from an experienced modder. I think it meets the goal of making the amp a lot more usable. I am glad you like it.
