View Full Version : Ipod Touch vs Ipad for Garageband
Pretty sure an Ipad is the best medium for this app, but the $300 price difference has me wondering if the Touch might be good enough. I know theres also a difference in memory and the keyboards might be a bit akward aon the 3.5" screen.
Is anybody happy with using GB on the Iphone or touch or is it really just a no brainer to spend the extra $ on an Ipad?
Not expecting intense demo quality usage, just messing around at home.
thx

The size of the screen makes a WORLD of difference.....and it's not even close. If you can afford the iPad, I GUARANTEE that you will not be disappointed by spending the extra cash over the touch.
thanks-you sound like the voice in my head ;)

Agree. In addition, the Ipad is so much more handy for many other applications. Only advantage of ipod touch (aside from price) is portability--is you're using for jogging, etc. I have a conventional Ipod for portable music listening and Ipad for everything else.
BTW, I travel a lot so got the 3G compatible version, but have found enough wifi capability, I almost never use it. Not worth the extra money to me.

Just remember that Garageband on the iPad is different from the version on the desktop/laptop. You're more limited. It's still fun and it's great to get some ideas down but I'm not sure if I'd want to buy an iPad JUST for that purpose. If it's something you've been looking at for a while, then by all means, get one. But if that is your primary reason, you might be disappointed a few months down the line with Garageband when you've found all it's limitations.
For the record, I LOVE my iPad and use it more than my main computer for 90% of everything I do outside of work (books, internet, magazines, news, social media etc.).

Get the iPad. Though I still go to my Macbook Pro for most everything, the iPad is SUPER convenient, looks AWESOME, and Garageband for it is KILLER!
I used to have a stack of magazines on my coffee table, now I just have my iPad in the center of it. Everything is right there, and it's just so sleek.

I know what you're saying . I know from experience that I'm never gonna get that heavy into recording/mixing /editing etc and that ease of use/intuitiveness is key for me, so I don't think GB's limitations will be an issue for me personally

yeah-i'll be using it for so much other stuff anyway, so I really shouldn't cheap out. Pretty sure I'd come to regret it

I typically spend more money in the end when I "cheap out". Good call mate.
