Anyone have RP-80, can't get it to power on

Just bought one from eBay, power chord works and everything is fine except I can't seem to turn on the unit on with batteries instead of using the power chord. I also tried my roomates identical rp-80 pedal and we can't use the batter option to turn on his either. Anyone have any tips like do I have to press a certain button. I also have my guitar cable on the input slot and hooked the other end to the guitar and still no go. Thanks for your help.

So the power cord works but batteries won't?

Are they fresh batteries?

Did you have anything plugged into it? If its on battery power, it only functions if something is plugged into the input jack, as a battery saving measure. So yeah, try plugging into the input and it should turn on. If that doesn't happen... Then I got nothing, sorry.

As flymolo0 suggested, the RP-80 uses the same sort of battery interlock on the input jack that most other pedals use. You need to put a regular mono TS plug into the input jack or the batteries will be disconnected.

If you've got a plug in the input jack and it still won't power up with batteries then check the polarity of the batteries. The bottom pair of AA's should have the positive pointing toward the treadle side of the box. The other two pairs should have the positive pointing away from the treadle side. There's a nice diagram of this in the owner's manual:

If that still doesn't work then the last possibility is the AC adapter jack. There's an interlock switch on the sleeve of that jack that disconnects the positive side of the batteries when there's an AC adapter plugged in. If that switch goes bad then it won't work on batteries. Only thing you could do in that case is replace the jack.
