I am 5 for 5 this year. Musicians friend have been fantastic. The price I paid for this newest purchase is insane-just got to take advantage of black friday coupons, specials, and ask ask ask ask and ask again. Anyway I bought a pelham blue junior.
Took a few weeks to arrive due to backorder.
This thing arrived and it is superb. It weighs about 7lbs even.
The frets are perfect.
The paint is perfect, shiny and gloss.
The body is a one piece body.
The guitar is fantastic, plays absolutely great, sounds like a monster.
I personally like the obeche. I now have two obeche guitars. It looks like ebony, feels like ebony. I do have to say tonally I feel like my obeche guitars are more lively and acoustic unplugged. I cannot leave that to the obeche alone but this les paul junior is so absolutely alive unplugged, it is loud. I actually had a few moments of the wife in the other room saying turn it down and I was not even plugged in.. It is a loud guitar. Is that due to the obeche? I do know my other les paul faded with obeche is the same way... so maybe. The other thing.. the two gibsons with obeche seem better at lead playing and bends, I can't explain it other than I can play faster and bend easier??
Anyway gibson is putting out some great guitars and musicians friend probably lost money on my purchase and they did it with a smile. Great service to boot. I am happy.

Not intending to be a downer, but this Obeche? The data presented doesn't inspire confidence. They must be treating it somehow.

"Extensively used where durability and strength are unimportant...Low bending and crushing strength.... Very low stiffness and resistance to shock..."

Yawn
Rule # 47.394 of the TGP rule book clearly states. "Must provide pics if you are posting a NGD thread and or must notify members in thread title that there are No pics and therefore there is no reason for members to look in thread"
Or something like that :dunno

I've bought several Gibsons from MF, and have always been happy with the service and the guitars. I would actually rather buy from them than to walk into a Guitar Center, so much less hassle.

Congrats. I have one too. 6.5 lbs one piece body and I love it. Put a kinman P90HX and a Tonepros wraparound. It's an amazing guitar!
Enjoy yours!

The Pelham Blue JRs were a nice surprise when I first saw one. I don't think they used that color on JRs before.

I bought 2 Gibsons from MF back when they were still honoring the 20% off coupons. The first one was an SG standard which arrived flawless. A short time later they emailed me another 20% off coupon. So I bought an LP std. The Lp had over-spray in quite a few places but otherwise was fine. After a week I decided that I didn't like the over-spray and wanted to roll the dice on a better top. So I sent it back and a few weeks later (Lightburst was out of stock) they sent me another guitar . The replacement had no over-spray and a slightly better top.

You know, everybody loves to bitch and moan about Musicians Friend, especially since GC bought them out, but I’ll tell you what: I bought a drum set from them a few years ago that arrived at my doorstep missing a set of tension rods, and in one phone call, they took care of it and I had rods in two days. None of this “you have to talk to the manufacturer” crap that some dealers will give you. I thought they did an excellent job.

I have a Pelham Blue Junior also, and I can concur, its WAY loud and resonant when unplugged. For the price it was a total score. As much as people are posting things from lumber sites about obeche (not just on this forum, others as well), I notice no distinct difference from ebony.
I don't have a picture of mine either but since its not my NGD I am allowed to not have one.

Two years ago nobody ever heard of Pelham Blue. Now everybody has to have Pelham Blue. WTF is a Pelham??! Most examples I have seen are not very attractive, much less not very Pelham Blue if the original sixties guitars that bore this color are your benchmark. I had my hands on a P.B. Trini Lopez not too long ago. Strikingly beautiful finish; dark, metallic, soulful looking. Most of the examples I have seen look like some color new Hyundais are painted. Hopefully this craze will soon pass!
Oh, and do I really care what someone else likes? Nah, just spewing. Knock y'selves out and enjoy!

I love Pelham Blue...got my Junior and an Epi Dot both in Pelham. I agree the original Pelham from back in the day is better but I still love it. Still considering one of those Pelham SG's, if only they came with better pickups stock....
