View Full Version : Don't pick on my little brother

It's just a general observation but I've noticed that on most forums when someone down talks Gibson their owners and fans will rally to the cause and defend them. However over on the Gibson site I not only find a large number of Gibson owners doing a pretty good job of trashing Gibson but I also find an even large number of posters that seem to be alright with it. When comparing it to the Strat and Tele sites the the differences are stark. If you slam a Strat or Tele on those sites you can get ready for immediate and heavy incoming. Is it something like when I was a kid and it was OK when I picked on my little brother but if someone else did I was rite up in their face? Or, do you think it might be a telling sign that something is going on with Gibsons customer base.

merely complaining/bitching/whining about gibson is only adding to the problem. Dont buy their guitars, dont talk about them, and hopefully they will eventually go away. Or Henry will sell to somebody who is a guitar enthusiast first, and a business man second.

It's not so much "down-talking" or not liking them, it's more some of the preposterous and exaggerated claims made that provokes response.
Like a post saying "Everyone of the 15 Gibsons I owned had major problems" (not far from a post not long ago).
When you've been around for a long time on the major forums you see things similar to this often, very often.

Usually because it's coupled with inane banter about how much better their $400 Asian copy is compared to a 5K Historic.

This is a status forum, with a small or at the very least a minority population of musicians. I'm sure you can figure it out from there.
And yes I own some Gibsons before some fanboi comes charging in accusing me of jealousy, and cue the kneejerk reaction responses about playing x number of gigs a year with my Gibsons. :rotflmao
The silent majority collectors/wall hangers/photo ops types won't bother posting.
