Why can't I post a For Sale/WTB Ad?

Only supporting members can post threads in the Emporiums. See http://www.thegearpage.net/board/tgphome.php?pageid=Supporting%20Membership for more details.

You need to be a supporting member to post a want to buy, want to sell, want to trade or for auction post on TGP. That includes signatures. The only place buy/sell/trade/auction info is allowed on TGP is in the Emporiums sections. In order to support the site, folks selling on TGP are asked to become supporting members for as little as $5 for a month or $12 for a year to do so. Check these helpful links for more details:

A forumite ripped me off. What should I do?
First, please re-read the Emporium Rules.

What you should do
  • If you have proof of deceit that would hold up in small claims court, notify the administrators and they can take action on the forum. We can’t and won’t get involved in issues without solid proof.
  • Share your experience with other forumites via private channels such as PM or email.
What you should NOT do
  • Publicly air your grievance. Accusing another forumite of ripping you off without solid proof is not tolerated. If you have enough proof to keep your claim from getting you suspended for personal attacks, it's enough to get the seller banned. If you don't have evidence that satisfies the administrator's burden of proof, you will likely end up sanctioned before the person who you claim ripped you off.

Why doesn't TGP offer feedback on buyers and sellers?
  1. Because even without a feedback section, we already spend too much time dealing with angry sellers/buyers who are looking to air their grievances.
  2. Because the ugliness that would occur, founded and unfounded, would spill over into the rest of the community and cause a toll on everyone.
  3. Because eBay sellers assume a new identity after a few negative feedback deals. We have enough issues with banned folks assuming new identities without encouraging other folks to create aliases because they didn't like their emporium feedback.

Attention Dealers and Manufacturers

You are invited to post and participate in any section of the Gear Page. You are free to answer any/all product/service questions in any section. It is against forum policy for manufacturers and/or dealers to start threads concerning your products/services outside of the Dealer and Manufacturer's Emporium. It is also against our policy for a commercial member to post about their products in someone else's thread unless they have specifically asked a question about that business' products. You are welcome to to promote your business in the Dealer and Manufacturers' areas as well as selling your personal gear on TGP. In addition to the other Emporium rules, please adhere to the following:

  • If you're starting a thread (as opposed to replying to a query) that can be construed as promoting your business, it belongs in the Dealer/Manufacturers section.
  • If you're selling gear that was acquired in the course of doing business (i.e., "inventory"), it belongs in the Dealer/ Manufacturers section.
  • If you're selling personal gear, you are allowed to list it in the appropriate non-dealer section. In these cases it would be advisable to provide a disclosure that it's personal gear and NOT related to your business.
  • You may NOT post negative comments about potential competitors.
