Anybody own or have any experience with Boogafunk Cabinets?

    http://www.boogafunkcabs.net/

They are Thiele design cabinets, look like they use some unique construction techniques and a special road tough coating.

    Any thoughts?

You can almost pick up a Mesa Thiele w/EVM12L for a few bucks more.

If you go to the Mesa forums at grailtone.com there's a lot of discussion about those. The builder posts quite a bit and people seem to be quite happy with them. The problem with the Mesa Thieles they're making now is that they no longer house the speakers they were designed for meaning EVM12Ls.

I have heard Mesa leaves out other parts of the design as well. Plus I would much rather support a smaller business. And you can customize it in any color with their road tough finish.

They also use a much lighter wood than the Mesa cabs, which is important to me. I think I will order one up in the next month or so and see what I think.

    Thanks for the responses thusfar!

From what I understand you are correct, better low end, and less "beamy" or directional than a closed back cab. They also don't get lost as much as an open back cabinet in a Large room would. The Thiele specs are specific to the EVM12L speaker, so they should work well.

Hopefully somebody with more knowledge on the subject will post.

Look forward to "hearing" your thoughts when you get the cab!

Mesa's thiele cab doesn't use the same kind of joints that the EV plan calls for. I guess the boogafunk cabs are completely true to the EV plans which call for bulking up of the joints. Mesa uses birch ply and a different kind of joint. The internal volume of both is the same, ~1.3cu ft. Boogafunk has to use the lighter wood becaues there is more wood in his cab.

This is all from memory over on Grailtone (boogie board).

Have you received your Boogafunk yet? Just curious. Think I am going to pull the trigger on one of these soon.

Well I ordered up a Boogafunk Thiele cabinet, the wide version. I got it with the EVM12L Classic speaker. I will give a report in a few weeks after I get it and spend some time with it.

The Boogafunk cabinet is killer! I just received it Monday, sounds great with the EVM12L and is built like a little tank! Great build quality with no rattles, top notch components! I will give a review after I have it for awhile. In the meantime, here are a couple of pictures (note it is actually more purple than the pictures show):

The design must've changed recently? I just picked up a Mesa road ready for less than the unloaded Boogafunk and have owned two other Mesas ($500/pair), all with EVM12Ls.
I also own a Pacific Thiele cab, a company started by an ex-Mesa employee and a home-made one, both built to the original EV specs.

    I like my Mesa cabs.
